Gotno, my daughter is in teacher training as a live in in a top public school. Free time is zero during term time. She teaches unaided for several hours per day, then has duties every night. The only saving grace is the long holidays. She's getting a bit peeved with it all. She's now doing the uni bit, plus night duties, and can't understand the whinging lot sponsored by state schools who complain about the odd tiny bit of school related work they get. Btw, she's been there 2 years now and is now against public boarding school education since she thinks it robs them of a normal childhood and leaves them no time to think for themselves.

Alp., I wonder if the French economic declaration decision is based on their embarrassment - either way! The economic, social and health damage caused by drugs is well documented. In an age when smoking is being stamped on for good reasons it seems perverse that there are those campaigning to declassify cannabis which is usually smoked so one gathers.Bob., you stated that with some apparent authority on the subject :)

Stoned, the only thing more useless than a chocolate teapot is someone telling shareholders in any company what they should have done a year ago. It isn't a great ability to look back at prices a year ago to find better, or worse, performers in that timescale. We are all retrospective billionaires you know.

PC - when you are bored looking at the Lloyds share price take a look at the global illegal drugs sector versus the top industrial sectors. You may have a surprise.

PC - it was one of the factors even a while back that helped UK GDP one quarter. ;)))

Always look behind the stats.

How on earth can there be accurate and reliable data for, one assumes, undeclared activities? An odd state of affairs.

For those posters who continually compare French and UK GDP - adjust the numbers first!

France will not implement EU rules allowing member countries to adjust their national economic output figures to include illegal drugs and prostitution.
So far, Italy and Britain are among countries that have said they would include these numbers.
France will not be adding either the illegal drugs trade or illegal prostitution to its calculations of gross domestic output.

………;……̷0;......…...that is a big number (#463) for those people who like comparing apples and bananas.

France 2.3trn€
UK 2.4trn€ incl whistles and bells ;)))

Minerve,
I heard an account from Rev Ian Paisely , around the BSE crisis.
Westminister were happy to support a UK wide ban , even if it crippled Northern Ireland farmers. There was no need for this as they had no cases.

Rev Ian towards the end of his life started to see the flaws in the Union and the benefits of doing your own deals if they impacted your country.

Fishing owners are also tory donors , they have little real interest in fishing . Mark my words the fishing community will be sold down the swanny. A bargin chip .

Quite amusing posts.

- Fishing UK GDP contribution 0.1% (a true minnow).
- Illegal drugs and prostitution contribution 5%

What % of GDP would the 'UK' fishing industry be without Scotland?

I would say near on negligible. And this was supposed to be a big issue for Brexiters.

So, in effect we would be spending probably £100Ms if not £Bns on such protections when the industry itself is worth less. Erm, clever!

Like spending £4K on CCTV to guard a corner shop making sure the tube of Smarties isn't stolen.

LOL
