USA is ready to rock with the UK on 01 Feb – the EU isn'tWith "ze clock teeking", the EU seems determined to waste more time?© Twitter, US AmbassadorBrexit Facts4EU.Org sheds some Brexit light on the murky world of EU delaysYesterday the US Ambassador to the Court of St James, Ambassador Woody Johnson, made it perfectly and very publicly clear that the United States is ready to start formal trade talks the moment the UK leaves the EU.Unfortunately, unlike the US, the EU will not be ready.Ambassador Johnson stated yesterday that the USA is ready to start agreeing new trade arrangements with the UK in two weeks' time - on 01 February – the day after the United Kingdom exits the EU (albeit in name only). How is it possible that the EU is not ready to start trade talks after all this time?BREXIT FACTS4EU.ORG SUMMARYEU-UK trade talks – the current position and the extra EU delaysOn 01 February, (first day after Brexit), the EU will NOT be ready to negotiateWhen drafted, the Commission's proposed mandate needs to be discussed by the EU27 governmentsThe EU will not be ready to negotiate trade with the UK until MarchMarch will be three years and nine months after the UK voted to leave the EUThis is just three months before the notice period to extend the end of the Transition Period expiresIt is just nine months before the UK will leave the EU and trade independentlyOn the other hand, the USA is ready to start?Credit: Twitter, US AmbasssadorEU Commission picks Juncker's Spanish Europhile Head of Cabinet for key role in UK negotiationsJean-Claude Juncker's former chief of staff Clara Martínez Alberola has just become the EU's deputy chief Brexit negotiator, working with Michel Barnier. She only started work one week ago, on Monday 06 January. In the 1980s Ms Martinez Alberola attended the College of Europe in Brussels, as well as the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Aged 56, she has only ever worked as a technocrat for the EU.Is the EU really a credible international organisation? The EU Commission still has not even drafted its proposed mandate for negotiating a trade agreement with the United Kingdom. According to Monsieur Barnier, speaking in Sweden last week, he hopes they will have completed this by 01 February. This is the same day that the USA is ready to start agreeing trade terms with the post-Brexit UK. While the United States is pressing ahead, the EU will still be talking amongst themselves.Once the Commission has produced its "negotiating mandate", it then has to propose this to the EU27 governments for approval. It is expected that there will be some disagreements. Some governments will insist on prioritising certain issues, such as full access to British waters, whereas others will care far more about the bulk of the trading arrangements between the EU and the UK.We expect this to be discussed at the General Affairs Council on 25 February although no agenda has yet been produced. Monsier Barnier himself hopes that the final mandate will be agreed by the end of Feb/early March. Only then can the first negotiating meetings with the UK's team be planned.Chairman of the ERG Steve Baker MP stresses need for parallel trade talks"This is no time for timidity. Parallel negotiations will stop us becoming a rule-taking satellite of Brussels," says former Brexit Minister Steve Baker MP, the Chairman of the ERG - the main grouping of Eurosceptic Conservative MPs in Parliament. In a powerful article in the Daily Telegraph yesterday (FREE link), Steve Baker MP laid out the compelling case for conducting trade negotiations with worldwide partners, without waiting for the EU.It was this article that the US Ambassador responded to so quickly.

Alp... choosy quotation --- he has done more in the last 100 days than the last 3 years of stalemate... which has actually impacted on a lot of us in a negative way.

In terms of what he has done, he has a landslide majority, Brexit has become unstuck and Stormont is functioning for now. I have no idea what is going on behind the doors of number 10.

I think Hammond was fiscally to tight, Boris needs to get on with spending. There are areas that really need attention and he needs to do that in parallel to Brexit. I don't see Boris as extreme right wing. I could be wrong, but I hope not)

Yes, the interview was lightweight.

1carus - puzzled - in one sentence you say that he has "achieved more in the last 100 days" and then you say "The guy hasn't done anything yet".

Which is it?

He has done something as he closed his first press conference this morning since the election by saying that he is not going vegan this January. Really helpful information. I had been wondering. Lol

Astute observation. Nicola is nobody's fool. Boris needs an intravenous from Cummings.

Minerve, this is exactly what NS was hoping for.

She knows that the chances of winning a referendum at this time are slim and as such believes that being "told" by Westminster what Scotland can and can't do is actually the best outcome to garner support from the borderline folks as nobody likes being dictated to, especially the Scots.

Putting the vote off also gives time for BJ and his merry band to screw up and there's also a very good chance of a recession on the horizon which again the opposition parties will use to their advantage, especially the SNP. Brexit also provides further ammunition should things not run as smoothly as planned, so all in all it's a win win for NS and the SNP.

The other point which is often missed, is that not everyone is "staunch" one way or another and if people in Scotland were indeed to prosper post Brexit under a Tory Government, then that can only be good for the country and it's population.

It's all good from where I'm sitting........

I doubt that many posters would understand your phrase above. They are still missing their Post Office pass books and Green Shield Stamps. Lol

I’m confused by Brexiteers. First they assured us that they would have worldwide deals well before we left the EU, especially with former Commonwealth countries, the US, China and India. They also assured us the EU would appease Britain because German car manufacturers would force the German Federal Government to back down. None of these confident predictions have unsurprisingly come to pass. China has made clear that any trade deals with her will be her terms not ours, and that interference in Hong Kong will have economic ramifications for those countries that choose to do so.

So much for emerging stronger and more sovereign.

A trade deal with the US must have the backing of Congress and as most House Representatives and Senators receive bribes (called campaign donations in the US) from the pharmaceutical & medical insurance industries it is difficult to see how Congress will approve any trade deal that does not result in us paying high costs for all medicines made by US corporations, or that the UK government will not have to agree to a loss of sovereignty by more part privatisation of NHS services. It is the UK who needs the deal, not the US.

Finally, BJ’s bluff is finally going to be exposed. He cannot hide from the probable economic, social and political consequences of the reckless pseudo promises of Brexit

Brexit will continue to dominate UK politics for the next 3 years at least, and cakeist sunny-uplands brexiteers will continue to find remainer predictions come true, time and again.

Then again, the Brexit elite got what it wanted: a bigger slice of a smaller pie, safely hidden away from EU transparency laws. ;)

Lets spend 500k so that Big Ben chimes for the plebs, after which we will be in the single market and customs union with no say at the table, and at the end of the year we will be out in the cold, with an attendant significantly weakeneing of the economy and diminution of political clout. I can't think of anything better to spend money on can you?

Boris Johnson told 'BBC Breakfast' 'you always have to budget for a complete failure of common sense' .

You certainly do when you are involved Boris.

What does this clown see in the mirror? FFS.
