CONSERVATIVE MAJORITY
_____________________

Expect 360+ seats tomorrow. The 2017 GE was Remains best chance of overturning Brexit when hysterical remainers flocked to the countries polling booths with the taste of defeat still fresh on their lips & Theresa May was handed the reins by Tory metropolitan old Guard.
Now Leave have their man in Boris and all the pieces are in place, there will be no voter apathy in this election & remain have shown their best hand last time around. BIG Tory gaims in key marginals. Expect Lloyds to flirt with 66.

BBJ you are now saying it was inappropriate to even call it a "referendum"!
What was the whole exercise meant to achieve? The Dunkirk evacuation meant "Get the hell out Europe" no terms attached! We went back later when the dust had settled!
We'll do it again, with our eyes wide open with a quid pro quo deal! Any infringement on the deal settled by the existing WTO not to be overridden by the ECJ.

m5 - an excellent and thoughtful post.

I can agree with much of what you have written.

My style is to write in a condensed format; just a few comments:
- since the outset the UK has never really been at the heart of the EU and for most of the time has been a recipient of decisions rather than in the decision making process. IMO it has been too late for sometime to change that approach and therefore the UK has to leave. If a UK global group operated in that fashion it would be out of business very quickly.
- My time horizon may be longer than yours.
- The UK approach to economics has never made the €uro an option for the UK.
- The poor UK administration has exacerbated the immigration issue; you will note that most immigration is non EU related. I am doubtful that will change very much. The estimate of untraceable illegals I think is around 3m at present.
- the question of taxation is a thorny issue and needs sorting I agree.

The main thrust of my question to you was what do you want to see in the future and you have not answered that! How do you see that (your) vision being accomplished? The idea of 'getting Brexit done' is a nonsense as though it is some self contained decision.

Once again I enjoyed reading your post.

"Actually evidence shows that we may have prospered under the Euro"

I think "may" is the appropriate word Min, my own feeling is the Euro will dump and have put my money where my mouth is so we shall. Anyway Alphorn asked for my opinion and I have given it to him.

Anyway stuff to do so we shall see what tomorrow reveals. Catch you all then at some stage.

g2:

"That is no analogy at all. Becoming a free and independent country is an objective in and of itself with nothing further. It is a noble objective men have been willing to die for."

Trouble is of course that those of us who voted to join the then Common Market and have applauded the transition to the EU and still fervently believe that OUR Country is best served by this already believe that we ARE part of a free and independent country WITHIN the EU and ARE also prepared to die for it.

Ergo: The dilemma of a marginal so called Referendum result really is problematical for OUR collective peace and sanity.

Too far to matter. Perhaps the Chunnel should be sealed as a preventative measure.

The destination was known. It was to leave the EU".

An analogy as your investment principle would be 'I want to invest'
What sort of investment do you want - 'I want to invest'
Do you want a blue chip or an AIM share - 'I want to invest'
Are you interested in yield - 'I want to invest

That is no analogy at all. Becoming a free and independent country is an objective in and of itself with nothing further. It is a noble objective men have been willing to die for.
