Sturgeon is a much more competent and capable politician than Boris will ever be. The other night's QT was evidence of that.

Factually, UK debt/GDP:
Year......%age
2007/08..41
.
.
.
2010/11...75.6
2011/12...81.2

2018/19...85.2.

Real deficit peaked at 86.5 from 2014-2017. Most of the doubling was between 2007 and 2010/11, followed by a slight further increase.

Austerity has not yet happened...

How this will affect Lloyds I do not know. But at SOME point interest rates must surely rise (if we have Labour that will be bolted on as inflation will be guaranteed; my guess is the same but less under the Conservatives).

100,000 journalists in the NUJ taking a leaf out of the Lectures many Unions, may go on strike before the 12th Dec......What utter Bliss! Hang on...... most of them are freelance, aren't they?
also....
Call for law to ban class prejudice, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady urged politicians to introduce a law banning discrimination against working class people. (90% of people in jobs or business describe themselves as such)
Unite leader Len McCluskey ( man with a reverse psychology) derided Boris Johnson’s ambition to be seen by the nation as another Churchill. He said it was no accident that workers’ share of GDP declined from more than 64 per cent in 1975 to 51 per cent now. He said it was down to the refusal of the Tories to engage with trade unionists as industry partners. (4 day working part-timers with full partner votes on board maters, a key to the luxury WC, plus OpenSesame combination code to the safe!)

Reintroduce National Service to instill discipline in these drips and make 'em do a proper job when they get out!

Re Peter Sammons previously posted 22 Nov.
Without wishing to be seen as disrespectful to the majority of voters, I believe that very few fully understand what Sammons said. But everyone needs to understand to a lesser or greater extent - because promises are easy to make and readily broken and if the electorate cannot consider the references above to our daily lives and how it will affect then they should not vote without thinking seriously
The addage that my family always voted Labour should be dead - but isn't.
The biggest item of expenditure is the repayment of debt and its interest - Labour want to cripple us further. Should we stay in the EU the contributions will be huge with no rebate and military service in the EU Army will be requisite as will the Euro and not the pound.
LLOY share price has risen recently because of optimism about a Tory victory - but die hards who disregard the facts - cos they can - may be ruinous.
Asking what should be spent on a particular aspect of Gov/Community/infrastructure etc on a ballot paper to the public is surely inadvisable but the matter needs to considered - because people DO NOT UNDERSTAND though they may think they do. I know a little but am aware of what I do not know.

?KevinPosted November 25, 2019 at 9:53 am | PermalinkThe Conservative Party wants to "get Brexit done". Bearing in mind that we voted for a "Leave the EU Brexit", here is a summary of what I understand to be the reasons why they will not get it done:1) The WA's transition period, during which the UK would be subject to new EU laws that would at that point be passed by a completely foreign government.2) Clause 77 of the PD, which requires the parties to uphold "the common high standards" applicable at the end of the transition period in "relevant tax matters". This being the transition period during which the EU would have legislative authority over the UK.3) "Article 174 [of the WA], keeps the supremacy of the European Court over our own law". This is a tweet from Jacob Rees-Mogg (during Mrs. May's premiership).4) Article 129(6) of the WA, which requires the UK to refrain from any action likely to impede EU action based on an EU foreign policy decision. Amongst other things, it is suggested that this article makes Britain subservient to the French vote in the U.N. Security Council.5) What are the implications of Boris' Deal for trade between N. Ireland and the rest of the UK?6) Clause 72 of the PD requires the parties to cooperate on the development of measures for the regulation of fisheries, "in a non-discriminatory manner". It is argued that this would effectively keep us in the CFP.7) You have anticipated that the UK's financial obligations under the WA would be much higher than £39 billion.8) Presumably, we will continue to pay the EU about £13 billion net p.a. during the transition period?9) According to the Brexit Party, under the WA the UK is leaving £7 billion of our money with the EIB.10) According to the same source, under Boris' Deal we are said to be, for a period of 12 years, potentially liable to the tune of up to £40 billion in the event of a Eurozone financial crisis, which amount could rise to as much as €500 billion under a system of joint and several guarantees.

Peter Sammons 22 Nov 2019 5:30PMAs Britain considers its population density it needs to answer a range of inter-linked questions:As a percentage of food consumed, how much should come from UK sources (2019 = 47%)? (how many of our own population should we be able to feed?)25% of our rivers are now dangerously over extracted, threatening wildlife and ability to provide sufficient water to UK farms. How much over abstraction should UK tolerate? [WWF 2017].In context of global warming, over abstraction of water from rivers and acquifiers and rising population, how many desalination Plant should UK build (and where?) (or do we consider that water "rationing" and "economy" is a realistic proposition to "solve" this problem?)NHS represents 9.8% of GDP and accounts for £140Bn of expenditure. Given rising population, how much of our GDP should we spend on NHS? And what other services should pay for this?UK has smallest peacetime army since Waterloo 1815. How far should we allow our army to shrink? 82,000 personnel in 2018.Royal Navy: as of November 2018, there are 75 commissioned ships in the RN. Of these vessels, twenty are major surface (six guided missile destroyers, thirteen frigates and one aircraft carrier). Ten are nuclear-powered submarines. How small should UK shrink its navy? (Is the UK prepared to "shelter" under US nuclear umbrella in period 2025 to 2045, in the event UK abandons its nuclear deterrent?)UK currently pays EpU approx £350M a week (and is returned approx £170M a week by way of EpU "grants"). Allowing that EpU will increase UK's "contribution" following a reversal of Brexit, what is the max weekly contribution UK should then make? [375M, 400M, 500M?]UK's "rebate" is presently £5.8Bn in 2018. Is UK prepared to surrender this rebate?UK education budget is presently approx £85Bn (4.4% of GDP). What does electorate reckon to be the right level of spend, given current population rise is nett 350,000 per annum? [And how is this to be paid for?]Baseload power generation has shrunk. What margin of excess capacity should UK possess to meet future contingencies? 0%, 1.5%, 2.5%, [n]% Given that UK requires 515 new houses per week from 2019 to 2025 to keep pace with rising demand:a)what proportion should be built on green belt?b)how much latent farming land shall be allocated to housing need, given that UK is unwilling to allocate active (in-use) farming land?Should UK electorate have a people's vote to give legislators a clear directive on these key questions?

I think BJ will get his majority. Mainly because there is no credible opposition and people are sick to death of it all and the uncertainty that goes with it. My mate who is a remainer was considering voting JS but after her performance on Friday, he is going BJ and he can't stand him. JC is a non starter. Says it all really.

If the WASPI women get their pension back, then in these days of gender equality, can’t all men declare themselves as identifying as Female and also claim an early pension. What happens to the binary or non gender specific?

...asking for a friend. I bet my pink fluffy slippers they get the pension they were born with.

Boris Johnson’s appearance at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair had been kept under wraps, as most campaign visits are. But if the farming community here was either surprised, delighted or appalled to see the prime minister they didn’t show it.

There were no boos or cheers from spectators as Mr Johnson walked into the judging arena to pat some prize-hopeful heifers. Instead, there seemed to be a polite indifference from the voters Mr Johnson was here to court in the constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire, a huge and beautiful rural seat the Liberal Democrats took from the Conservatives in a by-election last summer.

It’s one of several marginal seats in Wales the Tories are targeting.

Mr Johnson trimmed some sheep and posed with some cattle, but his campaigning style feels more restrained than his mayoral zip-wire days. The buffoonery has been buttoned up.

He’s leading a party that appears to be ahead in the opinion polls and Tory strategists are desperate to avoid a repeat of Theresa May’s calamitous 2017 campaign. The new Tory manifesto is certainly risk-averse in comparison.

As for voters? At the farming show there was little sense of election excitement.

“I don’t think this election was necessary,” said one man. “They should have pulled together and sorted it out.”

Another told me many people felt downhearted and more concerned with Christmas than competing political promises. “A lot of people who’ve been loyal to one party or the other are saying they don’t know,” one woman said.

BBC accepts 'mistake' over Johnson answer in news clip
The BBC has said editing footage of Boris Johnson for a news bulletin was "a mistake on our part".

He appeared on the Question Time: Leaders Special on Friday evening and the audience laughed when he was asked how important it is for people in power to tell the truth.

But the laughter and subsequent applause was absent from a cut-down version of the exchange on a lunchtime news bulletin the following day.

The BBC said in a statement on Monday afternoon the clip was "shortened for timing reasons" and while "there was absolutely no intention to mislead, we accept this was a mistake on our part, as it didn't reflect the full reaction to Boris Johnson's answer".

"We did not alter the soundtrack or image in any way apart from this edit, contrary to some claims on social media."
