New legislation next week to get out with No Deal - if I heard correctly - a surprise.

What is this about? Must have misheard.

edit: No, Corbyn has just repeated it.

Letwin's amendment is a good idea. No rush. Let's hope it passes. Sensible politics.

stonedyou, you are kidding, right? If there's one person in the country who will have read and understood every word it's Bill Cash.

"If the Letwin amendment passes, it is "too late" for the government to pull the main vote on the deal, says BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg.

But it can be "negatived", she says - ie if the government doesn't provide tellers or no-one shouts "aye" on the second call then the vote could just come to a halt.

The Letwin amendment would provisionally approve Boris Johnson's Brexit deal, but withhold official support and delay Brexit until the necessary legislation is passed."

"This would withhold parliamentary support for the deal unless and until legislation implementing the agreement in UK law is passed by MPs.

If it is passed, it could force the prime minister to seek a further delay to Brexit beyond the 31 October deadline - under the terms of the Benn Act passed last month.

The BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg said its "brutal effect" would be to deny the PM the opportunity of having the "conclusive" vote on his deal he so badly wants.

A No 10 source has said the vote on Mr Johnson's deal will be abandoned if the amendment is passed, saying it will "render the entire day meaningless".

"A vote for Letwin is a vote for delay and the whips will send everyone home," they said. "It would perfectly sum up this broken Parliament.""

"Commons Speaker John Bercow has chosen an amendment that, if passed, would require the PM to write to the EU by the end of the day to ask for a three-month extension to Brexit."

Everybody home and no vote if that's passed.

stonedyou, what did you think of Bill Cash's speech? He addressed one of your specific concerns, sovereignty of Parliament vs sovereignty of the ECJ - and he still supports the deal.

For DUP this deal would have been a good deal as long as they have been given to them a veto... which mean it's not about the deal but play politics.

Brexit vote: Letwin amendment to win by FIVE votes – Tory whips admit defeat to Peston

BORIS Johnson’s hopes of taking the UK out of the EU on October 31 look set to be

dealt a huge blow with MPs tipped to an amendment tabled by Sir Oliver Letwin

which will effectively force him to seek a delay to Article 50 from the bloc.

Kenneth Clarke has just said it's a very bad deal and much worse than Mrs May's.

It must have some merit, then!

Ian blackford repeating time after time thesame speech without, like labour and lib dems, any proposal to Brexit. What a waste of time. This is not opposition but useless lot!

1carus - good post and agree with much of it.

I think today having no economic impact assessments is very scary indeed. I can not imagine any business working on that basis. The whole thing is an emotional mess with no easy escape. IMO it will weigh heavily on the UK for some time to come. Scary times as you say.

Let's see again how Brussels works behind closed doors...Juncker makes it clear that the Irish border issue is a EU fabrication, a lie, to create leverage for the EU in future trade negotiations! They are terrified of having the 5th largest economy on the planet trading independently on their doorstep!
