Get behind Boris Johnson or we'll be out, Amber Rudd tells Philip Hammond

Edward Malnick, sunday political editor
20 JULY 2019 • 9:30PM

Amber Rudd today warns Philip Hammond to support Boris Johnson or face Labour winning a general election by Christmas.

Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, the Work and Pensions Secretary, who backed Jeremy Hunt in the leadership contest, describes Mr Johnson as a "friend" and declares that he is "ready for Number 10". She urges MPs to now "come together again no matter who wins."

Ms Rudd's warning comes as Mr Johnson prepares to demonstrate his own credentials as a "unity" prime minister by retaining Michael Gove in the Cabinet despite a bitter history between the pair. The former foreign secretary is believed to have decided to promote Mr Gove if, as expected, he is announced as the winner of...

Mark BPosted July 20, 2019 at 5:18 am | PermalinkGood morning. It is entirely in keeping with Mrs May's calamitous handling of government . . .Please don't tell me that now she is leaving Number 10 that you have only just found this out ? Most of us knew all this before she became PM.Mrs May claimed to be the champion of the Union yet she sided with the Union's strongest critics . . .Yes, she often spoke of how important Scotland, Wales and Ulster were to the 'Union' yet, she, like so many in the HoC, failed to mention the only country in the 'Union' that does not have its own government and is responsible for putting her and her party were it is – in government. Now that's IRONY !Reply?CaterpillarPosted July 20, 2019 at 8:43 am |PermalinkMark B,Yes huge reform is needed, at the very least1) An English parliament situated in central England, and2) Two vote mixed member proportional representation (at least for legislatures, the executive-legislature relationship needs a quick review),3) All senior civil servants to be moved out of London (and some moved out altogether)

I struggle to find what your above accusations have to do with Brexit or Scottish independence.
I recommend you post it on the Lloyds on topic thread.

Couldn't you just imagine the opprobrium directed at the exit department for privatising the withdrawal process? The likes of McDonnell would be having seizures. On second thoughts....!

He'd delegate to whoever can be trusted. Why Goldman by the way Alphorn? Were they not involved in 'preparatory work' prior to Greece joining the single currency, remember googling it a while back and it didn't look good.

cheshire - the only way that he would get his switched on advisors would be to contract out to Goldman.
………;…otherwise he could always use David Davis and IDS. Clowns unlimited.

diku: I'm sure Boris will have plenty of switched on advisors capable of ensuring the deal we get with the US will be good for the UK. He'll just need to make sure he's flushed out anyone remotely connected with May, Hammond, Liddington, Clark, Gauke and any other remainers so they don't crawl out of the woodwork down the line and sabotage things.

Is your cul-de-sac an icon of what humanity should be? ROFLMAO!

"caused by career politicians"

True that may be but most unlikely to change very soon. It is more likely to snow tomorrow.

btw jacko, I would not be surprised at all if Trump did not go for a second term. If he could negotiate a treaty with N Korea or something I think that he would prefer go out on a high rather than sit through a global downturn. A president is always remembered by their last years.

What trump has done he will undo just to get a second term.

no more trade wars

no more bullying of other nations

no more silly tweets

i am sure there are many other factors that trump can make good

climate change

fraking

mexico wall

stop creating problems far away from usa in other lands

nearer to to home keep his nose out of venzuela, cuba and mexico

FT comment:

We are in for 5-7 years of horror. But after that things will change rapidly as the boomer generation dies off and the millennials become the major decision makers and the largest holders of executive power. That will produce a very dramatic swing against the current nationalistic and nostalgia driven politics. The old dinosaurs of labour, the brexiter pensioner WW2 nostalgics and old Tories like most party members, Ian Dunkan Donut etc will be dead, not least because the NHS wont have any money to spend on keeping them alive!

ROFLMAO!
