One for Poikka...

England were wrongly awarded an extra run in their Cricket World Cup final victory over New Zealand, according to a former international umpire, on their way to a dramatic super-over victory at Lord’s.

In the final over of regular play, Ben Stokes inadvertently deflected the ball off his bat to the boundary rope as he dived to reach the crease, turning what would have been two runs into six and playing a crucial role in equalling New Zealand’s total to force a super-over.

But the well-renowned former international umpire Simon Taufel says the on-field umpires made a “clear mistake” in awarding England six runs, rather than the correct figure of five, as they batsmen had not yet crossed when the ball was thrown. It also meant that England’s best batsman, Stokes, retained the strike.

Max - you would not recognise reality if it came up and bit you.

There is a real risk of a 'perfect storm' as I posted some days ago on my thread.

UK 'scarily' exposed to next major downturn, economists warn

Tim Wallace
15 JULY 2019 • 7:03AM

The UK’s recession-fighting tools are already almost exhausted leaving the economy ill-prepared to battle the next slump if and when it arrives, economists have warned.

Interest rates are too low to be cut significantly, while the Government is already heavily indebted from heavy borrowing in the financial crisis and the years since.

This means urgent work is needed to find tools which could be used to stimulate the economy in another crunch, said the Resolution Foundation.

Its analysts are not predicting an imminent recession, but risks including a global economic slowdown, the US-China trade war an uncertainty over the future of Brexit all mean it is time to prepare for the worst.

ignoble.

because most people are NOT owed a PPI refund.

there are no records before a certain date.. It is mostly a complete scam perpetuated upon the banks ,and not by them....by our nearly communist FCA...

Port. From my own experience (46 years various banking and mortgage accounts) I must strongly disagree. My premier account benefits are very good, my offset mortgage is great and they provide worldwide travel insurance for my 30+ severely disabled son who lives with us for £80 per annum for many years. My three children have accounts and a mortgage and have never had any problems. Important to give balance to comments made but accept some customers will be unhappy - when are they not with any provider?

Brexit Britain has a big role to play in promoting free trade and reform of international aid

Conclusion A grand strategy that draws together free trade, reform of aid and ODA, that brings with it the enthusiasm of the population of these great sceptre’d isles, will put Britain front and centre of a maturing and developing globe. In working as global reformers and free traders, we will play a leadership role in securing a safe and reliable future for our global economy. In so doing, our people will be proud of our achievements, hold our head high as global leaders, yet certain of the security of their local communities. Moreover, as we develop our own trade policy, and influence others, is now the time for the UK to seek to introduce our social values within trade deals? Workers’ rights, the rights of minorities, women’s rights and protections, animal welfare, tackling modern-day slavery, ridding the planet of plastic waste: these are just a small handful of many progressive policies that we are proud to have championed in the UK. Can we demonstrate, successfully, our ability to influence others to follow our leads though not just our new-found independent membership of global organisations, but by the choices we make when securing free trade deals? Brexit is just the catalyst we need. The future is exciting. Now is the time to embrace it.

Well done England

By JOHNREDWOOD | Published: JULY 15, 2019

What an amazing game of cricket! It was a roller coaster ride for players and fans, with great drama down to the last ball of the final super over. England showed great resource and determination against a brilliant New Zealand team who were so close to victory themselves.
Congratulations to an England team who have provided so much good entertainment over the last four years making their way to become world champions.

I suspect the Banks are giving away a little in claims to save the cost of investigating who is owed exactly what.

Minnie the TROLL.

Nobody knows what he really thinks, he's just winding you all up.

Whereas diku has no such excuse.

"So England win the World cup on technicalities...not an outright win...

Boris will be very happy...use the England win as a can do attitude with Brexit..."

And there we have it - Remoaners bitter at any sign of UK (or it would seem just England, judging by comments from Scots and Welsh here) success.

A great match between two sides playing their hearts out.

What I will never understand is why if you are owed a PPI refund, you have to claim it.
Surely, if a Bank knows its customers are due a refund, why do they not automatically repay it?

At the update in August, I want to hear a lot more about how our 3 billion being spent on fintech projects is shaping up...are the benefits coming through to the bottom line yet? I see many redundancies coming at Lloyds once ppi stops as the section should be down to just a skeleton staff by year end.

Minerve. Why are you being so mean spirited and nasty to our Cricket team, it was a fair win against a great Kiwi team.

Minerve I have posted many times before that you really are consumed with hate to the point that you are ill. Most of the country enjoyed a great day of sport. Can't you forget your rage against the English and congratulate the cricket team.

I doubt it will cure your psychological problems, but you must accept that we are leaving the European Union as the result of a democratic vote.

Your anger and hate are ravaging your body, you are not healthy, go and get a check up.
