18/6/2019 13:55 | The Scottish "nasty" party are the same people who give pensioners free travel, everyone free prescriptions, free meals for children at all schools and nurseries, and who have added a small increase in taxation to the highest earners while reducing it for the lowest earners. "nasty" ?? And some of you English wonder why they're so popular North of the border ?? Not everyone wants independence, however what they DO crave is for a fairer society and one which includes being part of Europe as opposed to isolating ourselves and being at the mercy of a ruthless United States controlled by a megalomaniac and his self serving billionaire henchmen............ | ladeside
18/6/2019 13:43 | I am no fan of Trump, think he is a disgrace to the USA. With regard to Farage, I am not a fan either. I voted Brexit because over many years I have watched the UK pay billions into Europe with very little to show for it. The roads in Spain are better than we have, yep and we paid for them. Leaving Europe may be difficult but it will pay off as Europe will implode, the Euro is a failed experiment. The mighty Germany is failing and is in trouble, those who don't see it are blind. My reference to Spain's roads is what happens when you bleed prosperous countries to finance improvements to all those other little economies. Farage has helped the UK to see it, Farage exposed the bureaucracy and hypocrisy. We need to get out and forge our own future, our own deals, our own laws. | jacko07

18/6/2019 13:29 | What do Conservative rank and file members think re Brexit Eye opening. YouGov survey found that 63% of members would be prepared to see Brexit take place even if it meant Scotland leaving the UK. Some 61% would rather Brexit took place even if it caused "significant damage" to the economy 59% would prioritise leaving the EU even if it meant Northern Ireland breaking away from the rest of the UK 54% would accept the Tory party "being destroyed" in order to secure Brexit. UK's time has come I suspect. It no longer serves a purpose, and both England & Scotland would be better off going their own way(as indeed we are on many fronts already) | crossing_the_rubicon
18/6/2019 13:28 | This is what would be lost if the BBC gave free TV licences to all over-75s Peter Kosminsky Original drama, Blue Planet, plus whole channels would go. This hard decision has been forced on the BBC by politicians No mention of millionaire presenters or the outrageous bias shown when reporting all things €U. | maxk

18/6/2019 13:23 | Mr Elbee "So you ask " How did May get so far being a traitor?" Answer; Since Heath that has been the way forward for the tory party, with the glittering exception of Margaret, who eventually they managed to destroy" They got so far because treason is no longer punishable by a capital offence. Nor, in fact, is it punishable. The Cambridge 5 were allowed to betray the nation(4 of them were widely known at the time, the 5th came to light some time later) All of them should have been given a capital punishment including Blunt. | crossing_the_rubicon

18/6/2019 12:45 | Elbee. If you are a fan of Farage and Trump, despite your wide experience, you are a terrible judge of character. Judgement is often more important than knowledge. | careful
18/6/2019 12:35 | Graham, When I was teaching very clever African students they told me this...their continent has had the worst governments since the end of our colonies...worst in the world bar none...All in the name of anti-imperialism, 3 generations of decent Africans have been slaughtered so that the white liberal elite doesn't feel guilty about ruling anymore...people like Rory Bloody Stewart. So I said to them..." How come you lot are all so honest and clever and sensitive to this?" they said" Well we wont be like that for long ..the family and cultural expectation is that we will have to follow the corrupt violent line if we want to get out of the ghetto" So you ask " How did May get so far being a traitor?" Answer; Since Heath that has been the way forward for the tory party, with the glittering exception of Margaret, who eventually they managed to destroy. Europe is the same ... lovely people hopeless EU government... But I do believe Orban ,Salvini and Nigel and the French lady...with the help of our Donald...will sort the bah lambs out! Reason to be cheerful! | mr.elbee
18/6/2019 12:29 | This is a pretty decent and balanced article if anyone's interested. | ladeside
18/6/2019 12:29 | Rory seems ok but I would like to see him over longer period. He talks good sense although his jury of citizens is a crazy idea. A random group of people with a higher authority than parliament. Ridiculous. But Rory does represent the vast majority who want a soft Brexit or no Brexit. The no deal Brexiteers are in a minority. The referendum of 3 years ago was narrowly won by the leave vote, many of who were told a great deal was easy and that we could have our cake and eat it. Rory Stewart is representing the majority in this leadership competition. He will lose at the membership vote stage, because the Tory grass roots are just as crazy as Corbyns grass roots. | careful
18/6/2019 12:11 | Rory on Brexit Will try to push through the current 'deal' (again? groan) agreed by TM. If that failed (like, yes, it would), he would set up a 'jury of citizens' (as I mentioned earlier) to thrash out a compromise. Dreamer. | poikka
18/6/2019 12:08 | Maxk - 701. Is Rory bending over a chair in that work of art..? | poikka
