Sorry, you seem to have a complete inability to converse in a logical manner - you state it is problematic these potential immigrants have friends and family here and some speak English - WHY?

Their services are either required or they aren't - if they were arriving through normal channels likely they would be but the channel they are suggests likely not.

.... The problem now is most of them have friends and family over here already and speak some English.

Because as mm2 said they should be claiming asylum in the first safe country that they arrive in and that clearly hasn't been the case. France has been complicit in this by their passiveness.

mm2 - these people have nothing to do with the EU as I am sure that you know. So why do you expect any change post Brexit? The fact that the UK is a soft touch is down to the UK alone.

Yes, you are right, issues like that should have been addressed and resolved many years' ago. The problem now is most of them have friends and family over here already and speak some English.

Soft touch over here.

Why don't Calais migrants claim asylum in France?

UK politicians have said the migrants in Calais should claim asylum in France if they need protection.

But many migrants say their life in France is "no good", and they hope for better opportunities in the UK.

Under EU rules, asylum seekers should claim asylum in the first safe country they come to.

Fast train to Lakeside in Scotland, they need more up there.

Theresa May should be honest that her deal puts Europe first and the rest of the world second on trade

By

It was a statement of the obvious, but no less crushing for all that: asked about Theresa May’s beleaguered Brexit deal Donald Trump said it looked like a “good deal” for the European Union and meant that the UK “may not be able to trade with us”.

Not literally, of course - trade with the US will continue well enough - but hopes that Brexit would free up the United Kingdom’s hand to strike a trade deal with the US and the wider Anglosphere now appear to have been dashed.

And who could blame Mr Trump from coming to that conclusion? Mrs May’s Brexit deal is shot through with the assumption that the United Kingdom should continue to look to Europe first when it comes to trade.

Attempt to woo Labour MPs backfires as they say Downing Street 'treated us like idiots' during Brexit briefing

By Jack Maidment, Political Correspondent
27 November 2018 • 3:05pm

Theresa May’s attempt to persuade Labour MPs to support her Brexit deal backfired after they said Downing Street “treated us like idiots” during a briefing on the withdrawal agreement.

Gavin Barwell, Mrs May’s chief of staff, and David Lidington, her de facto deputy, addressed Labour MPs on Monday evening in a bid to win support and deliver a boost to the Prime Minister’s chances of getting her deal through the House of Commons.

But the session was labelled “pointless” and “utterly sh--e” by MPs who said it had actually made them more likely to vote against the deal.

Meanwhile, the briefing sparked fury among Tory Brexiteers who said Number 10 was attempting to deliver Brexit in name only -...
