Taking down of the Berlin wall was a big mistake it marked the beginning of un bridled Nato & EU expansionism. The EU has become an overarching federal state in the that time which was one of the main reasons Britain has withdrawn. Putin is absolutely correct to have his concerns.

If the West guaranteed Ukraine's security as you say, why did they feel the need to over throw the democratically elected Ukrainian government in 2014, to push Ukraine into seeking NATO membership, and thereby provoking the Russian bear?
That is NOT a way to guarantee security as events have shown.
