29/1/2021 09:46 | In some positive news on the virus front, a fourth Covid-19 vaccine could be approved for use in the UK within weeks as late-stage trials suggested it was 89% effective in preventing coronavirus. The UK has secured 60 million doses of the Novavax jab – to be produced on Teesside – which is believed to offer protection against the new UK and South African variants. It was shown to be 89% effective at preventing coronavirus in participants in its phase 3 clinical trial in the UK, which involved more than 15,000 people aged between 18-84, of which 27% were older than 65, Novavax said. The vaccine will now be assessed by the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed. The jab has shown around 60% effectiveness against the South African variant, which has been worrying scientists due to concerns vaccines may not work against it, but it offered 86% protection against the new UK strain. "I've an idea - let's sell these Novavax ones to EU at FULL PRICE" | ![]() geckotheglorious

28/1/2021 23:45 | Grow up Min, or else quit the fire water ... you are beginning to grate. Here's another one for you to suck on ... enjoy Mount Teide27 Jan '21 - 20:29 - 91377 of 91382 0 12 2 The sight of the EU pleading and begging the UK for British designed and produced vaccines just 4 weeks after Brexit was fully implemented is just too delicious for words. Well, sorry, you're going to have to suck it up because as Mr Obama once said "you're at the back of the queue" So, there's a problem with production in Belgium, an EU country last time I looked, resulting in a shortage in EU supplies. The EU arrogantly demands that AZ breaks it's contract with the UK and honours the EU contract. Can you imagine how much they would have laughed had it been the other way round? Yes, reversing the situation is the acid test. And no, we would get nothing apart from a lot of snide comments about Brexit, and how the Brexiteers still haven't understood that the EU is a rules based organisation! I think the EU choosing to conduct its commercial negotiation via tabloid smears over the AZ vaccine’s efficacy, and generally bashing the Company in the media, is the best indication of the paucity of their legal and contractual position. The 'hopeless', 'neanderthal, 'back to the future' UK having vaccinated more than 5 times the average achieved by the clueless, bureaucratic EU is the stuff of brexit dreams, especially when all we hear from the incompetent, sharp elbowed, whining EU officials is outrageous demands they must be allowed to jump to the front of the queue. Game, set and Brexit! | ![]() maxk

28/1/2021 23:13 | The UK doesn't have a proper medicines agency because of Brexit. What they did with AZ vaccines is irresponsible. They give it to old people, without any knowledge about its efficacy. AZ is basically conducting a large-scale experimentation on British citizens. This is how hopeless your government is, with one of the world's highest death rate per capita. Call the EMA molasses if you will, contrary to its still inexistent british counterpart, it's an independent agency--a populist's worst nightmare! | ![]() minerve 2 |
