Also, there is a huge difference between investing in gold as an asset and investing in a gold miner. One has no forward earnings stream, the other does.

Patient

I wouldn't read too much into Berkshire's purchase of Barrick. If you think Buffett has suddenly become interested in mining stocks/gold I would think again if I were you. He now leaves some of the smaller decisions to others.

This is not Buffett's work if you have read and studied Buffett in great detail.

Interestingly Berkshire stock is down today.

"Socially unacceptable or not, I think I'm right in saying the BoE had a target of 2% inflation. I honestly think when things return to near normal, hopefully by early next year we will see a steady rise in Interest rates."Unfortunately rates have been kept low since the banking crisis to pay for Government debt and I can't see any reason why they will rise in the next few years. Government will need to borrow vast amounts to pay for their generous spending. For the government, the ideal scenario would be low rates to borrow with rampant inflation to bring the debt mountain down.

Shrinkflation is worse than 2%
And Asset price inflation far higher than 2% generally

Few people inflation is where it "officially" is said to be.

Asset prices have soared whilst wages for "most" in the UK have fallen.

One thing many have not seen is Household Income/Wage inflation - in fact the middle class has been squeezed downwards, and those in the lower classes smashed even further down in real terms...

That is why there are so many angry people around quick to protest, riot, and loot.

Where have you been?

2% is not inflation - I left school in 1980!

Asset inflation - property only for most people is more or less entirely the result of wage and household income inflation.

The Ministry of Defence, in procurement, are so separated from the country that they have one procurement policy — make America great again,” said Francis Tusa, editor of Defence Analysis. “There are a lot of sensible things they can buy in the UK.”

He cited the UK’s reluctance to order a next generation Typhoon fighter jet, equipped with the latest radar technology. Germany had already committed to the latest version of the European fighter, he said, but the Royal Air Force was not interested.
