16/8/2020 08:31 | Really important decisions would never have been moved from Brussels. Keeping the £ gave the UK some benefit, with the Euro we'd have been well and truly stuffed. | poikka
16/8/2020 08:23 | Deciding to opt to keep the beloved £ and not join the Euro may not have been such a good idea after all. And of course, it moved the UK to the periphery and away from where the really important decisions were negotiated | benchmark
16/8/2020 08:15 | "Only hope for the EU is to ditch the Euro." Depends, gaffer, Germany and nearby nations have done very nicely from the exchange rate when the Euro was established. But the rest, including the UK, have been totally rubbished by commerce gravitating to the centre. The UK, in particular, has suffered from EU membership by so much of our industry being tempted away. The 'level playing field' is an illusion. | poikka

15/8/2020 22:21 | The disconnect of which UtyINV spoke about between the ftse and the DOW since 2015ish and the Brexit vote confused me for while as well. The fear surrounding Brexit seems to be centred around the notion that companies will move out of the U.K and over to the EU and the concerns of the city about a possible relocation of the financial markets. Specifically the fear of losing the Euro Bond market. While some companies have relocated their headquarters there has been a big take up of office space from companies coming into the U.K. because of Brexit. As for the relocation of the financial centre of the whole world would be far to much monkey business to be practical. Even more so now that the E.U seems ready to implode because of financial pressures of it's member states. I voted to leave simply because of the large bill each month for membership not because i'm against Europe. I'm very pro Europe just not an E.U German controlled superstate . We voted for free trade and free movement of European people but it turned out to be far from free for either. I'm hopefull of a free trade deal with good reason , it's in the E.U's interest. One last word on the disconnect of the ftse and DOW....Trump. If he loses that disconnect may reconnect pdq. Good Luck. | mitchy

15/8/2020 20:11 | I am growing sick of the IC modelling to create mayhem and the pathetic media - where is grammar and why are conjunctions so misused when Grammerly appears every day above my e mails - never make a mistake again it says. What ifs are ok if backed by what if nots. Why is the media obsessed with trying to destroy their own readership - they have been successful there - and not mount a challenge to the science - and phps prevent their own demise - though they see it not -but they soon will with advertising revenue devastated. | jl5006

15/8/2020 17:35 | Richard Atherton15 Aug 2020 4:57PM@Paul RathIt is often forgotten that under Obama more US Servicemen died or were seriously injured under him than any President since Vietnam.President Trump, neatly side stepped armed conflict with North Korea, managed to actually withdraw troops for Afghanistan and managed to get The Arab Emirates and Israel to sign a peace agreement which ironically Joe Biden sabotaged and tried to claim it was his victory. | xxxxxy |
