Most people who state they are "shorting" are not shorting in the strictest sense of the word. What they are doing is just placing a bet that the share price will fall. The company accepting those bets, like IG, will balance the shorting bets against the long bets and any non-balanced bets are then taken as risk, covered by derivatives or backed-up by real stock market investment - although the latter I believe is rare.

To truly short any stock requires a great degree of confidence from your Broker/stock lender because it is an open-ended liability and therefore in order to do it they generally only allow institutions or high-net worths who are good for the money with expectation of collateral or the short be covered (in other words they already own a similar amount of the stock).

Jeeeez, Can't credit those guys try to blame the world's ills on George Soros. Is it just jealousy of a mega-successful fellow investor? (Gambler!)

Or was it just his views on Brexit?

G2 + al.

If Russian spies can poison enemies of the state anywhere they choose I'm sure the CIA could do similar.
Not that I'm suggesting that they should or would of course! I'm just surprised no one has.

It depends what you mean by "short." Many, even most "shorts" are actually pseudo-shorts.

to take Soros out, you have to know where he is, he has MANY mansions in many countries, all with their own armed security,

Soros is the No.1 danger for the free world. It's amazing that someone hasn't taken him out or at least stopped his crazy meddling with the free world.

Republicans v Democrats in the USA?

No choice at the minute.... Democrats would be a complete disaster causing more riots and the continued Antifa power culminating in a socialist state.

Trump is a bit of a clown but for now he's the best bet. "MAGA" is popular with most of the working population and the Democrats will just drag the U.S down. Plus, Trump is the best bet for the U.K. ATM!

mm2 - there is a site that lists all the shorts. I don't have it to hand; you can probably google it. I need to go out now but put it up here please if you find it.

Alp, a question, can you see if a short position has been closed? I have a small AIM share holding in my portfolio and posters are saying that they have seen the shorts closing, i can not see this anywhere, they are talking IG index.

M2 - if we knew that then a good share once again to write straddles. I for one think it will rise following an EU deal which I believe will happen and for that reason am only long at present.

Poikka: The whole of World History is a relevant starting point. All is written by powerful and self interested entities. But an easy start would be the Bible. (and all such claimed 'sacred texts worldwide.)
