Powell head of the FED said something mildly disappointing and it was used as an excuse to take the froth of the market.

I think it was tracking a FTSE dip. BP dropped and partially recovered at the same time.

I want Santa to give me a Bloomberg terminal for Christmas, so I will know WTF is going on in time to do something about it.

Derby City council have confirmed they have recieved a petition of 5M signatures supporting the removal of the statue of the Bonnie Prince. A spokesman refused to be drawn on reports that unless the statue was removed by the wkend that it would be chucked into the river Derwent, but did acknowledge that the overwhelming number of Derberians rated the removal of the statue as the single most important measure that could put Derby on a level footing with other top cities such a Tokyo, Sydney & San Francisco.

Regarding vaccine which some seem to think is just around the corner. That is probably delusional and illusion. I wish it wasn't: but think the vaccine is many years away. Mutations. Real complicated.

We are now in a deep recession and if this government does not wake up we will be in a depression. Stop dithering Boris - 1m rule and no quarantine would be a start to help correct this mess.

Sturgeon's latest excuse for a fight with Westminster - she wants the UK goverment to extend the furlough scheme so that those of us in Scotland who are furloughed can continue to get some money whilst she extends our lockdown until Scotland is an economic wasteland. If Westminster refuses and people start to get laid off when the furlough ends, she can blame it all on the Toreez.

Fail to understand why there is so much anger directed to our own Govt who obviously can’t help everyone.

The anger should be directed at China by boycotting Chinese goods.

@Thes Aurus Yes, indeed! Even more anger against China for designing Covid-19 and failing to ensure that it could not possibly escape.

Some nuke cruise missiles on its islands in the South China Sea would show how very angry we are with them.

While the figures are bad, we need to understand that the unemployment rate has gone up from 3.9% to 6.8% and so it is still relatively low by European standards.

France had unemployment of 8%, Germany 5% and Spain at 14% at the start of 2020.

I suspect that the unemployment rate probably would not rise much above the current levels as most of the UK's trading partners are starting to open up and there has been no resurgence of the virus so far - in fact the infection rate is falling everywhere in the developed world.

The real worry is that what will happen come the Autumn when the weather gets colder and if there is no effective treatment/vaccine then it may get grimmer with more job losses.

In the months ahead, you may have cause to review your prediction. Economists frequently disagree, but I have not heard any of them indicate anything other than further massive job losses around the corner. I sincerely wish that they've got it wrong, but I doubt it. And all due to government overreaction to a virus.

That is based on the virus keeping the global economy pretty much half closed throughout the year and there is hope with effective treatments/vaccines coming through soon. They can only predict with guesswork.

And why do people keep blaming the UK government for all the ills over Covid-19?

Even if the UK kept everything open, a lot of UK industry relies on global trade and industries such as airlines would be no better off. UK cannot be not affected hugely with what happens with it's main trading partners.

xxxxy,

Re China-India border tension..

It's been simmering for a while... Apparently US's (not surprising Trump involvement) deepening alliance with India is behind it..
Is worrying given they are all nuclear powers...

Swedens annual tourism - 2018
14.926 million

UK annual tourism - 2018
37.9 million

As I said, Sweden has no international global city(UK does) , there is a far larger populace travelling to/from UK annully than Sweden. Before Illegals.

Swedens model is not the one to follow for a global city, and a far more transient populace!!!! Common sense in fact.

Compare like for like - Sweden is far worse than Norway/Denmark.
Why?

Where is credibility.
