13/6/2020 15:45 | ROBIZM, I never saw Manning live so I must take your word for it. I do know a lot of comedians are very different on stage and on TV - Bob Monkhouse, for instance, was very good indeed on stage. As to your Davidson story, it sounds peculiar and I'd want some sort of evidence that (a) it happened at all and (b) that the substance has not been altered in the telling. | grahamite2
13/6/2020 15:40 | Seems the protesters are throwing bottles - Why did u get rid of that water cannon kumquat? Whata disgrace of a mayor! | jl5006
13/6/2020 15:39 | Alphorn, for that matter, for international news the BBC World Service is pretty good. | grahamite2
13/6/2020 15:36 | Grahamite my wife seen Manning live at a police do. She found it vile not like the things he said on tv. I went off Jim when he said he offered a young girl a lift home and drove her miles away from where she lived and basically said drop your knickers which she said no ( admire her for that) and kicked her out of his car in the middle of the night (he met her in a nightclub) and drove off and left her 12 miles from her house. If that was my daughter he would have needed crutches after I had finished with him. | robizm

13/6/2020 15:29 | ChrisSPosted June 12, 2020 at 4:08 pm | PermalinkIt's about time the Home Secretary and PM sent a letter to every Chief Constable stating very clearly that their job is to maintain law and order for the benefit of the majority of the population. They are not paid to appease mobs of whatever colour or political persuasion. It is an expression of utter failure for Dorset Police to tell weak and cowardly councillors like the hopeless crew running Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch, that they had better hide their statue of Baden Powell in case a mob comes calling. It's hardly surprising that they are so incompetent: The largest group is the Conservatives with 36 members yet the council is run by a mishmash of 39 councillors from the libDems, Labour and a mottley group of independents. Hardly democratic, is it ?Clearly Dorset Police need reminding that is their responsibility to maintain law and order and to protect property. | xxxxxy

13/6/2020 15:11 | The Black & White Minstrel show - no, I always hated that, even at the time. But Bernard Manning could be quite funny and Jim Davidson was and is very funny indeed. Davidson has his own youtube channel which is worth checking out. | grahamite2

13/6/2020 14:54 | The flip side of the BBC issue is that there is value in a station with a news flow without bias. There is indeed - do you know of one? | grahamite2
13/6/2020 14:51 | BBC spend minimum amount on news and employing the maximum number of reporters to report to repeat them 24 hours and not just that but manipulating and brainwashing the viewer at thesame time. BBC and sky they are sharing news to save money to pay their "stars" reporters like lovely Laura so on.Time to go private. | k38

13/6/2020 14:17 | "There is mass testing taking place, officials saying that more than 2,000 wholesale market workers were tested on Friday alone. "State media are reporting that the chairman of the market said traces of COVID-19 were found on a salmon chopping board - that has led to people getting concerned about food safety standards and an investigation launched across the city," she added. The virus was first reported at a seafood market in Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province, in December. There have now been around 7.6 million people infected worldwide and more than 420,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University which has been tracking the outbreak. | bbalanjones
13/6/2020 14:16 | The flip side of the BBC issue is that there is value in a station with a news flow without bias. If there are major events eg Iraq war I watch the news on Swiss, French, UK and US channels. The difference on reporting a single event is tremendous. It does nobody any good to be served up doctored garbage. If the BBC can not fill that role without fear of reprisal then it should indeed be privatised.......... | alphorn
13/6/2020 14:14 | A city spokesman said all six COVID-19 patients confirmed in Beijing on Friday had visited the market. They are the first locally transmitted cases in the city in more than 50 days. Health officials in surrounding districts have also been asking residents whether they have visited the Xinfadi market. The market was closed after someone, who had recently visited it, was reported to have been infected on Thursday. As well as halting domestic tourism, sporting events have also been suspended in the city, while plans to reopen schools for some students have been dropped. Pang Xinghuo, an official at the Beijing Centre for Disease Control, said: "Preliminary judgement suggests these cases may have come into contact with a contaminated environment in the market, or were infected after being in contact with infected people. "We cannot rule out subsequent cases in the future." Sky's Asia correspondent Siobhan Robbins said: "People in the area have been told not to leave their houses. "It is a worrying time for Beijing because it hadn't had a locally transmitted case for almost two months, so it just shows you how tricky COVID-19 is to keep under control, and Beijing isn't taking any chances. "Not only are these areas in lockdown, some schools and nurseries in the area were closed on Friday, several other markets have been shut as well. | bbalanjones |
