And it does no good whatsoever saying cummings is the subject of a witchhunt. That is just silly non-analysis and an admission of bamboozlement rather than anything half sane.

It's not really a firm line Graham - I want Boris to survive, and I think for that cummigs has to go and he has got to stop defending him. I want the tory party to survive - all this is fodder for lab/liblab/nulab/oldlab - they can't capitalise on it atm because there's no one half competent to capitalise on it. But it may be a factor in years to come.

I'm not saying sack him because i don't like him, i'm saying sack him to protect boris and the party. But boris may be beyond saving even now. Most tories imv want people to face the music if they have misjudged, they want equity and fairness.

Boris and Cummings must not succumb to the horrendous witch hunt by our left wing media. They have to make a stand.

Everyone, yes everyone without exception, knows cummings did something massively and obviously against the spirit of what was required.

No. They do not. I don't even know what "the spirit of what was required" means.

I almost always agree with you, Pierre, and I'm surprised to see you taking such a very firm line on this.

A lot of people I respect think, like you, that Cummings must go, but I incline very much to the "non-story blown up by pro-EU anti-Conservative media" view.

The welfare of your child plus thousands of other children?

It matters not one jot whether he was within the law or not.

Re brexit, when cummigs gets the boot or resigns, then Boris can still chat to him every night to get his thoughts on what to do.

The situation is so very obvious here, I think many are simply in denial, or rather know what's coming but prefer to post the opposite to bolster their tory standing. I'm a pretty ardent tory, and a very pro boris supporter up to a couple of days ago, now i'm just a supporter. And i support cummings and think his advice is sound. But these figures have to stand, and have to be seen to be standing, more proper and upright that us.

Everyone, yes everyone without exception, knows cummings did something massively and obviously against the spirit of what was required. Everyone. The debate is really about, having done that, should he get the boot. I think yes, others can think no - but what is surprising is the deception of making out he did nothing questionable. That's why boris is in danger of going - he's defending the wrong bit, that's what gets up people's noses, they, and i, thought boris wasn't like that.

Cummings making a speech this pm - if not the end, it will be the start of the end.

Here's why he acted within the law.
National policing guidance to officers confirmed the arrangements around self-isolation guidelines and reiterated the appropriate advice around "essential travel"

Do These Tory MP's actually think all Tory voters agree with them? I don't.

Dom Cummings will make sure we get a proper Brexit.

If Boris gets rid of him then the Remainers will be up to their old tricks trying to derail Brexit. Keep him there Boris!

Alphorn until your in receipt of ALL the facts theres nothing simple about it. Unless you are aware of Cummings role within Sage (are you?) you cant really boil anything down, ever heard of mitigating circumstances....let's see what he has to say later, if it were me I'd just say fk u & resign. In the absence of all other news the guy is being hounded out of a job imo, the media scrutiny is unrelenting...folk need to take a long look at themselves a massive loss if he walks.

Two agreements with PO in one day. :(

It simply boils down to a question of transparency and trust. The months ahead will be much more challenging and this is not the moment to bin those two attributes.

rofl - cummings non story!

No idea what goes through people's minds, but boris is teetering on a knife edge because of this.

Cummings obviously will go (why can't people see that?), Boris will be extrememly lucky to survive.

This is an incredibly bad judgement call from those who's judgement we are supposed to be trusting. It's not only the press, the left, the trouble makers saying this - there are plenty of tories saying the same, fearing the future of the party, seeing a crack for labour, should there be a decent politician in their party, would lever open.

The saga continues:

Dominic Cummings will give a public statement this afternoon after allegations he breached coronavirus lockdown restrictions, Downing Street has confirmed. Reported Cummings will make a statement and take questions himself.
