My oh my, some people fall for the alarmist press reports.

How about reading some academic papers recently written under scientific disciplines - you know, the ones which conclude that at the very worst covid could do (this in the uk ftaod) it will not have a material effect on overall annual deaths.

Evidence, wo needs it. The press death numbers may or may not be accurate - but they are alarmist because they are not put into context with other deaths.

For example there are 80,000 deaths each year from smoking. And you can smoke, you can breath in other peoples smoke, you can stand less than 2m away from someone who smokes. And that is each year, not the one-off covid is, where next year there'll be immunity in lots of people.

1,000,000 ish deaths each year from getting old.

You do realise covid sin't going to become extinct don't you? It'll be with us next year. Under your views we'll have to lockdown forever.

nb, numbers apply to uk, but the same or similar applies to every country on the planet, just thought I'd mention that for those who must find something to comment on, because they can't comment on the substance.

PO - agree with you. Truly a country of opposites.
Very often Brits who have not spent time there make the big mistake of thinking the same language, the same living etc. Not at all as you have posted.

The virus is not your friend no matter your age... it's has been proved. The only way to survive is to follow the rules. No other option but follow the rules. Wining the infection war we will defeat the virus.

Looks like the unthinking sheep backing up our global leaders are sentencing hundreds of thousands of U.S citizens to death.

For those who haven't lived and worked in the states, if you have plenty of money, you can have a great life and great medical treatment, if you don't have much or none, you're are left to die and most won't bat an eyelid - life is cheap for those with nothing. It's why i left the states, it stinks overall.

Ladeside - absolutely. Even the cheshires of this world who want WTO are probably the most deluded. Cheshire the W in WTO stands for 'World' if you had not realised.
He, no doubt, thinks that it means Westminster.

I think you're deluded if you think the whole world is in lockdown like the uk.

Japan, Sweden for example.

If you weren't so deluded in your own bias Lade, you'd realise that posts are about the global situation, not just uk.

Still, saves thinking about any points raised i suppose.

Some miss on the US jobless claims just out. Americans filing for unemployment insurance continued last week as more than 6.6 million new claims were filed, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That brings to 10 million the total Americans who filed over the past two weeks.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones estimated 3.1 million, a week after nearly 3.3 million filings in the first wave of what has been a record-shattering swelling of the jobless ranks. The week ended March 28 totalled 6,648,000.

ie reality double the estimate.

Bad for these guys.

I think some of you are rather deluded as you seem to think that this is a UK problem rather than a global problem.

To explain it in simple terms, even if the UK removed the lockdown and went about life as BAU, then it would make very little difference as our Economy is intertwined with the Global Economy and the UK lifting restrictions would have very little effect I'm afraid.

Interesting to note btw that mortgage rates in Switzerland have turned this week. On another thread someone was posting about higher rates on sales of new loan stock. Are rates turning at last?

mm2 - remember that!

I see no easy alternatives to cash at present. I have kept my oil shares as oil will still be needed after the recession/depression that is still to come. Trump will IMO sort out the Saudis.

I the meantime take care and enjoy the garden. Grass cutting today in the sun.

No letter from Virgin money to say my mortgage rate has dropped.....

Apparently they are reviewing the situation

k38, follow the rules or else!

Yeah sure, if you don't follow the rules, you may catch somehing that, assuming you are fit and healthy, you may not even notice. ffs!

Were you a lamb in a previous life? You know, where you obediently followed your leaders into the slaughterhouse because they know best?

You can at least use your brain a littlle and tell me exactly where my thinking is wrong, instead of just saying our wonderful leaders are worth closing down society for.

And remember to concoct a good excuse for daring to go outdoors should a police drone spot you.
