Some things don't make the headlines, like the academic report which estimate hat even the worst posssible effects of the virus will be just noise (that is, within the normal error measurement) in the annual death statistics.

Neither is the number of deaths of those on deaths door published in the covid death stats. The deaths are purely alamist and not put into context, like publishing alongside those who die today not fron covid, or those who die in car crashes or from cancer. Seeing '300 COVID DEATHS TODAY!!!!' is alarmist when it's not written that 299 of them would have unfortunately died anyway in the next month or so. It solicits an illogical emotional reaction in most, and that is the methods of unsavoury characters like Blair (why Boris too is effin disappointing)

There are more than 500,000 deaths in england and wales pa, that's 1500 per day - that's more per day than the total uk covid deaths so far. And most of the covid deaths would have been included in the daily deaths soon covid or no covid.

My view is those not in a high risk group could have carried on perfectly as normal, working, clubbing, shagging, and the effects of those not at high risk would have been like quite a severe flu epidemic (i.e. more than normal off sick due to the flu - and this just this year while the virus is new and there's no herd immunity this year). But, everything would be pretty much as normal (except for the vulnerable who probably would isolate themselves).

Yes Pierre.

The comment section of that article has more info than the article itself.

Such as Sweden effectively ignoring the perceived wisdom of lockdown, and carrying on regardless. No explosion of infections.

I too am having problems with the logic displayed by Boris and most of his gang.

Common sense would appear to have been thrown under a bus.

Boris and the gov are rapidly losing my support. He desparately needs more rounded and varied expert opinion to assess effects, and not just virus experts.

Max, yeah, more and more are thinking the same. A bit different from 4 weeks ago when lots of alarmists posted I was insane for not wanting total lockdown, and just the vulnerable to isolate themselves. Unfortunately, consequential deaths due to stress are rising, suicides up, family murders up, and depression and hopelessness will kill loads more, more than the virus ime. Not to mention the quality of life we are all having ATM. We're in a police state, with the police sometimes acting beyond their remit. The b all and end-all shouldn't be saving frail people at any cost - as we are now seeing, the cost is the lives of many who should have a full life in front of them.
