08/5/2004 12:41 | Being in the CL with Houllier is a damned sight better than NOT being in the CL with Houllier. We can't assume the board are going to sack him if we fail. | abix47
08/5/2004 12:33 | if we can't beat brum, what, frankly, would be the point in being in the CL. have hoping that we do fail to get 4th to accelerate the houllier heave ho. can't see any serious silverware on the shelf under him. and if gh were to shuffle off, i do think we could do worse than o'leary. he didn't agree the wage bills which is what has stuffed leeds. he just got a bunch of players, all of whom have achieved much less after moving on, playing pretty well together. | 0238jr
07/5/2004 19:06 | 3 attacking midfielders?.lol.... | stucom
07/5/2004 18:39 | lol! Mad I think you are more likely to end up in the drink with concrete shoes attached? Re Owen "he needs a partner" I know he does, playing as a striker, which means we have to play 4-4-2. That system is as archaic as the inside forward and half back. It only suits counter attacking teams who are blessed with outstanding wide men (United with Giggs and Beckham). Liverpools' tradition anyway, is short passing, control football in a 4-3-3 (Heighway the third man) or 4-4-1-1 (Dagleish dropping off). Owen is forcing us into a formation that we have proven we don't have the players to effect. We have no wingers (good ones anyway) and the forwards end up detached from the midfield, standing around picking their noses and trying to get hold of the odd long ball. I therefore bring you back to the 3 attacking midfielders which looked good for a while till it was dropped for Owen. Play him wide or sell him and take the dosh I say. | abix47
07/5/2004 18:08 | And A, I need some more advice on that 'convention booking'. After much tooing and frooing I agreed to assign it to some friends of friends from the blue half of the convention, only to discover this morn that I'd made a minor error and booked it for May 15th (No convention that day!!) OMG !!!! do you think a drink next time I see them will cover it? | madgooner
07/5/2004 18:06 | I basically agree , but i think he needs a centre forward , who can play as a target man with his back to goal , to play alongside . That would give him the chance to make his runs into space and use his pace . Playing Owen as a targetman makes no sense to me . Which is my problem with Sissy , who is another who wants the ball in space . | snowmann
07/5/2004 18:05 | Abix, he could come back from Euro 04 as top scorer (Assuming Henry gets injured;-)) and confidence restored and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. | madgooner
07/5/2004 17:40 | It should do though. I don't think (from seeing him live) he's lost as much pace as people say and he is a great runner at defenders. Playing up against bigger stronger men just doesn't suit him. He needs to come off the back four to find the space he needs to do some real damage. I reckon he'd actually score more goals from this position as he is at his lethal best after beating a defender and running in on the keeper. Would he go for it? Probably not | abix47
07/5/2004 16:22 | Owen on the right wing ?? it will never catch on abix :-))) | snowmann
07/5/2004 15:49 | Hi abix, Kirkland does appear to be unlucky. (I have an open mind about him but I have a few concerns). I've written Dudek off. (His spectacular dives to save easy shots, his not trying to make saves he feels are just out of reach and his howlers in important games have eroded my confidence in him). Patrice Luzi has the look of a goalkeeper but I don't know enough about him to judge if his ability lives up to his appearance. (I'd prefer him to be given a chance if Kirkland was injured as he seems keen and cannot be any worse than Dudek). TD | the diviner
07/5/2004 15:32 | lol! R Ssssh TD. Don't tell the mancs but I don't rate either of our keepers as world beaters. Both are capable reserves but Kirkland looks too clumsy and Dudey makes too many howlers. I'd still go for Dudek on balance though. | abix47
07/5/2004 15:26 | Can Pool play without a keeper now? | rigel
07/5/2004 15:16 | That looks like a reasonable side but it would be a better side without Jersey Dudek. | the diviner
07/5/2004 10:50 | I'm playing managers again. Seems to me Liverpool played their most attractive football this season with one up and three attacking midfielders. Two deeper mids taking turns to join in with the attack. Owen can't play that way and I'm more and more convinced that he's a goalscoring wide player and not a striker. I also think Kewell is better with fewer defensive responsibilities. ................Dude Finnan...Carragher.. .......Gerrard...... Owen...........Murph ...............Baros Bench Kirkland, Henchoz, Pongo, Le Tallac, Mellor. The formation encourages short passing but retains the ability for Gerrard to worry defences with the occasional bomb. Goals are there in all four attacking players but Owen would be allowed more space to do what he does best; run at defenders. We haven't had this dynamic all season. I would spend every penny we have on a top quality attacking midfielder with top notch dead ball ability. This has been sorely lacking this season. | abix47
07/5/2004 10:13 | Good informed information LB which I must temper by the knowledge that you are one of the worlds most renowned pessimists. :-) | abix47
07/5/2004 00:36 | Someone said to me tonight that his nightmare was for liverpool to make fourth and Houllier to keep his job. I said no, that's reality. Your nightmare is for Liverpool to come fifth or sixth AND Houllier to keep his job. | abix47
06/5/2004 16:46 | "If ye liiiikkkee a lot of igor on ye biscan join our club!" | chirpychap
06/5/2004 16:38 | Nah. No need to worry. Gh wouldn't get it wrong. When has he ever before? | abix47 |
