05/5/2004 13:42 | LB You're immediate mental health appears at risk, never mind in the future. Chin up. We could be worse, we could be United. | abix47
05/5/2004 13:36 | lilltebert if it doesnt look good for us then its must be even more dire for pool. | thenry
05/5/2004 08:00 | How can you 'seed' clubs that have proved themselves not good enough to go into a champions competition? oh, sorry, stupid me... on Stadium size and backhanders. Remind me again; how many teams have won the Runners Up Cup the season after winning their domestic championship? ......Need a clue? Think of a number less than one... doesn't look good for the Ar5e next season, does it? (Wonder if all this negativity is bad for my long term mental health?) | littlebert
04/5/2004 19:47 | The CL qualifying is seeded ... Likes of United and POOL ! could only play one lesser teams , although there are teams like Partizan ( ask Newcastle ) who can upset you . Dont forget Chelsea qualified this year . | snowmann
04/5/2004 19:15 | If Barca win their last couple of games, and Real M don't (if you've watched the last few games both are looking a certainty), what price Real having to play the Manc sh!te for a place in the 'Runners Up - Big Stadium' League. But surely they keep telling us on telly that they are the two biggest clubs ever ever ever? Uefa will have something sneaky up their snotty sleeves, no doubt. By the way Abix, GH stated IN NOVEMBER he would be happy with 4th - he gave up after 15 games; mind you, he alone knew which players would feature in the rest of the season! | littlebert
04/5/2004 15:47 | Leeds are in the Nationwide and broke, Liverpool are fourth in the Prem and solvent. So what are you laughing at Veron? ;-) | abix47
04/5/2004 15:40 | Seems to me the ideal combo is a proven goalscorer playing with a skill/speed merchant so this Kezman or Owen with Cisse could be useful pairings. Smith is more of a utility man who can play a variety of positions and provide injury cover. Smith is coming from a small club to a big one after all and must know he'll have to fight for his place. | abix47
04/5/2004 15:04 | Smith is ok , but hes hardly a world beater . I think Fergie likes his `spirit` but he wont come to Utd . Would be ok as a third striker , but not quite what he has in mind . Same with pool . I assume £14M Sissy will play so he would be on bench , unless Owen goes . If Trezeguet goes to Chelsea must be a good chance Owen will go as Barca , in particular , will be after him . | snowmann
04/5/2004 15:01 | Kezman eyes Liverpool move Dekker told BBC Sport: "Liverpool have not been in touch about Mateja, but plenty of other English clubs have. "Mateja has made no secret of his desire to play in England, and it is his probable summer destination." Kezman was reported to have told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Liverpool had joined the race to sign him. "Liverpool are back in it, it's true. It's a marvellous club with a great history, it would be great to join them," said Kezman. But Dekker claims Kezman's quotes have been misinterpreted, with the Anfield club showing no interest, and added they had not ruled out a move to Spain either. Dekker added: "Mateja was asked by some Dutch journalists if he would like to play for Liverpool and he said yes, but that's all. "Spain is also a consideration, but because Mateja is a Serb he counts as a non-EU player, and La Liga teams can only have three in the side at any time. "But nothing will happen yet, so we'll have to just wait and see." Houllier in Cisse hint Liverpool are already thought to have agreed a £14m deal for Auxerre striker Djibril Cisse in the summer, making a move for Kezman even more unlikely. | snowmann

04/5/2004 14:02 | See ye point Abix, about Kezman and Cole - Think Joe cole could shine at Anfield though - Alan Smith definitely will. Hows about Jip Jap on a free? "Gets the bal and scores a goal Alan, Alan Smith" He has to say hed play for :Leeds if they came back up and emotions are running high. Lets not forget it took them 8 years to get back up last time. | chirpychap
04/5/2004 13:56 | abix,smudger is a TYKE............pool aint got a snowball in................ne | stucom
04/5/2004 13:40 | Nah Mad. Loyal players are loyal players. Leeds might be his first love but we could be his marriage partner. | abix47
04/5/2004 13:39 | Not sure I'd want to sign a player who said he wants to go straight back to 'his team' if they are promoted. Obvious answer just occured tome. Chelsea sign him for £60M, he plays for one season, then they release him... | madgooner
04/5/2004 13:37 | I think I prefer the sound of Cisse and Smith. Passion and style combined. Thanks for your good work Robby. | abix47
04/5/2004 13:15 | Jury out on Kezman By Alistair Watkins Newcastle 2-1 PSV PSV Eindhoven striker Mateja Kezman, one of the hottest properties in European football, had little chance to impress during his side's Uefa Cup defeat to Newcastle. The prolific marksman scored his 28th goal this season to bring PSV level in the second half, but that was his only effort on goal and it came from the penalty spot. The 24-year-old is eager to play in the Premiership, but this performance alone is unlikely to have boosted his market value for the Dutch club. Kezman, who has a year left on his contract, has reportedly been the subject of a £6.5m bid from Birmingham and has also attracted interest from Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester United. The fact that he has scored so many goals tells you he has many qualities, and he certainly made a good impression when he scored PSV's goal in the first leg of their quarter-final. It was clear then why he had been described as the next Ruud van Nistelrooy - the player he partnered for a season at PSV. But, with his team struggling to impose themselves at St James' Park, the second leg was a very different matter. In the first half, the tall, almost gangly Kezman was employed as a lone striker and was starved of the ball as Newcastle dominated. England defender Jonathan Woodgate gave him no room at all and it was no surprise that the imposing Jan Vennegoor came on at the start of the second half to help out Kezman in the physical battle. But things did not improve and Kezman had no chance to show the two-footed shooting skills he displayed in his hat-trick in the Dutch domestic league last week. However, the way he thumped home the penalty to bring PSV level showed he does not lack in confidence and will take any chance to get his name on the scoresheet. It was his sixth goal in the Uefa Cup this season - another sign of a quality player. Like Van Nistelrooy and Shearer, Kezman is an out-and-out goalscorer - he does not have the creativity of a Thierry Henry - and if nobody gives him the service he can be marked out of the game. It would be a step up from the Dutch league to the Premiership but with goalscorers being such a valuable commodity, there is still certain to be a bidding war for the player come the annual summer transfer scramble. He is also a tireless worker, somebody who is prepared to work the channels and to link up the team - all assets that would help him fit in at a Premiership club. | robby george
04/5/2004 13:13 | Kezman eyes Liverpool move By Jonathan Stevenson Feature: Jury out on Kezman PSV striker Mateja Kezman has revealed he wants to sign for Liverpool despite interest from a host of English clubs. Several Premiership sides have already made contact with Kezman's agent Chiel Dekker, but the Eindhoven striker's preferred choice is Liverpool. Dekker told BBC Sport: "Liverpool have not been in touch about Mateja, but plenty of other English clubs have.
