Very quiet on both threads thought there would be some speculation on how labour would be funding there spending spree without raising taxes? Obviously keeping those personal allowances where they are will net them some cash but it won’t be nearly enough to fix the mess. The way I see it they will have to raid pensions and isas probably placing limits on tax free elements can’t see many other options until they get that illusive growth. I would imagine a big increase in rates especially on the social care element is on the cards.

L&G's Salary Finance reportedly in merger talks with Oakbrook

A major merger is on the horizon for Salary Finance, a fintech firm partly owned by Legal & General (L&G), and Oakbrook, a tech-enabled lending platform, according to fresh reports on Thursday.

Sky News reported that the two companies were in advanced discussions to form one of the UK’s largest non-bank consumer lenders.

The merger, orchestrated by L&G and venture builder Blenheim Chalcot, would combine Salary Finance’s employee wage advancement services with Oakbrook’s lending capabilities.

Sky said the union was expected to create a lender with a £500m loan book and 200,000 active customers.

Salary Finance, co-owned by L&G and Blenheim Chalcot and with a portfolio including fintech companies Liberis and Modulr, was expecting to enhance its offerings through the merger.

Blenheim Chalcot, which divested its stake in Clearscore last year, had been negotiating the merger for several months, Sky said.

The potential merger followed the recent restructuring by L&G’s new chief executive officer Antonio Simoes, who had designated a non-core unit for corporate investments, now slated for disposal, including housebuilder Cala Group.

Sky said the deal could dilute L&G’s stake in the newly formed entity, although its long-term investment plans remained unclear.

The merger was expected to be finalised over the summer.

Neither L&G or Blenheim Chalcot had commented on the reports by lunchtime on Thursday.

This is not exactly a deep and rigorous dive into the merits of Aviva vs Legal and Genaral but some might find it worth a read...

The winner?
Putting all this together, it’s not easy to pick a winner. Aviva appears to be performing better. But Legal & General has a higher dividend yield.

Given the higher yield, I’d probably go for L&G if I was looking to buy one of these stocks. However, if my goal was income, I might even invest in both.

Says something when cwa1 wants to post on the rejects' thread in preference to his own! I just had a quick look over there and don't blame him!

The 2% divi growth from such a high base is excellent. Very little chance of a divi cut in the medium term (which is sometimes a danger with very high yielders).

It's likely managing expectations, so I'm expecting 2.1 or 2.2% divi growth.

The big problem here is years of waste and neglect and a reliance on the service sector and house prices to prop up a dead economy. It’s perfectly clear and everyone and his dog understands we need growth but the costs are going to be enormous.Liz wasn’t all wrong apart from the obvious but can labour persuade the market.

The Times: Taylor Wimpey has dropped out of the running for Cala Homes after its opening bid was knocked back by Legal & General, which is hopeful that its housebuilding business will fetch at least £1bn.

At this share price its a steal for income focused investors. Stella divi paying history and continued to grow, even if 2% YoY from 2025 onwards. I have many 1000s of these and will continue to add, even if its circa 20% of my portfolio. As interest rates drop the gravitational pull to LGEN will only increase. I keep the faith and investing GLA

"Legal & General shares plummeted chiefly because of the firm’s new plans to cool the pace of dividend growth.

The business intends to grow 2024’s full-year dividend by 5%, as in recent years. But it intends to reduce annual growth to 2% between next year and 2027.

Its reputation as a generous dividend payer is one of Legal & General’s unique selling points. So on one hand, I can understand why the market has given the news a big thumbs down.

Still, I can’t help but feel that investors have overreacted here. Dividends haven’t been cut, after all. What’s more, the firm plans to balance out slower payout growth with share buybacks. It plans to kick this off with a £200m stock repurchase this year.

The financial services giant looks in good shape to hit these targets too. With a Solvency II ratio of 224%, it has one of the greatest balance sheets in the sector.

Investors now can get a 9.4% dividend yield for 2024 if they buy Legal & General shares. A sudden economic downturn could put pressure on that capital ratio, and in turn future dividends. But as things stand today, the firm looks in pretty good shape to me"

Morning All

Just checking in for a moment whilst away on my hols. Haven't got time, or bandwidth, here to check out all the posts but from a quick skim there seem to be a lot of posts that have nothing whatsoever to do with LGEN.

PLEASE, will you refrain from posting about politics, the election, Reform Party, Farrage, etc, etc. There are about a thousand other places that that can be done more appropriately.

Thanks, once again, for your co-operation
