I would have thought the weather - I can't remember a worse April, May, June - has badly affected clothes sales ... so these figures are rather good imo.

Hang on we're in recession, so any growth is to be welcomed & retail feels the brunt of it.

Laura Ashley Holdings Plc today announces its Interim Management Statement for the 18 weeks to 2 June 2012.

In the first 18 weeks of the current financial year ending 26 January 2013, total UK retail sales increased by 4.1%, with like-for-like sales growth of 5.4%.The Company is confident that its well-established brand, high-quality product offering and strong balance sheet will ensure the like-for-like sales growth trend continues across the retail business for the rest of 2012.

E-Commerce has also registered a sales growth of 18.8% compared to the same period last year. This can be partly attributed to the Laura Ashley website, lauraashley.com, having undergone considerable functional developments giving the customer greater ease of navigation and showcasing the entire range of bespoke upholstery products. A full mobile website has recently been launched and the E-Commerce service is now available to French customers.

Whilst I didn't expect LFL to continue at over 10% these figures suggest that in the last 10 weeks LFL have been running at approx 1%. I was hoping for something a bit better to give 6-8% LFL over the 18 week period.

Could be for tax or any other reason.

Good results from wh smith and debenhams,
signals to me the retail industry is in
recovery and expansion mode.
