Well now that Flacks have tried to put it "in play" all it needs is the current majority owner to play white knight and offer £21m .......less what he already owns of course...

The irritating thing with this non-bid, which has no chance of success, is it puts Laura Ashley into a takeover situation. Any holder of more than 1% now has to make a Rule 8 Opening Position Disclosure and disclose any dealings until the put up or shut up date of March 25th. Fenners, you could be right about it being a stalking horse as anyone lurking there with between 1% and 2.99% now has to declare their position. But what point does it serve as the board are not interested in selling and can drum up over 50% support. Looking at the Flacks Group website - making the headlines is sometimes enough for them.

I think that offer that they have not decided to make - but know how much it would be for exactly- less than the companies share price.... - looks more like my "stalking horse " today than it did yesterday

They must think the are like Mike doing deals on rent for HoF stores and buying up broken businesses, not one with cash and inventory that will send them packing but the market has already put two fingers up as the share price is still up.

To me Flacks just looks like an opportunist. He sees the company has turned around and at this level looks cheap. If the Malaysians want to take it private which I personally doubt then they don't need a stalking horse, they just offer minority shareholders a price. The Malaysians have total control as it is. Reading the annual report they have 5 board meetings a year and they seem perfectly happy reporting to outside shareholders. Flacks is obviously trying to stir them into some sort of action but he'll be told politely tomorrow he can go away and bother somebody else.

But he could be a stalking horse for the "owners" own bid....

LA's business seems to have bottomed out. I was looking to pick some ALY up if the share price slipped any more. As a rule, Malaysians never sell and have infinite patience - probably comes from waiting for rubber and oil palm trees to grow. I think Flacks is wasting his time as he's almost certain to be rebuffed.

If the ex wife asks for a settlement in LA stock, that would mean loss of control by the current owner, and potential takeover. Just speculating.

I sold some time ago but I have been following the share. I would expect to see the bod looking to sell the brand and then delisting. I would definitely classify investment in this company as highly speculative. GL to all holders.

I said at the time that the building in Singapore was a problem, and one that should have sent warning signs to one and all but things have changed and I now once again see light at the end of what I accept is a long tunnel but so it was for NEXT back in the 90`s. This though is a very different cup of tea, and tea is very profitable as are seats to put your backside on.

No I'm here because I was searching for yield and mighty glad I did not buy.

I researched the building in Singapore -bought with £30m+ I think - used up all the available cash and added borrowings - then surprise no cash for a dividend !

Massive loss on a white elephant that was supposed to become a world wide headquarters instead of investing in the business - WHY ?

Strangely enough his other interests are in hotels .

When you look at the retail picture over the past 3 years it seems to me that LA was ahead of the herd, when it came to realigning its shop portfolio - if only by circumstance and not by design, however the effect has resulted in a much trimmed business that has potential. In particular the home furnishing business, if well run and with the right minded design focused leadership that could bring vitality into its soft furnishing and upholstery business alone, could have a huge impact on increasing turnover/profit once confidence returns to buy those big ticket items.

Are you here for nostalgic reasons alone but I welcome your views and knowledge, as this thread could well come to life again after the full year results?

I do not know if it is finalised - I do know that messy big divorces take a long time though....

The potential was there 3 years ago - but this board managed to correctly predict the outcome, so far.

If the strategy followed remains as we believe it is then taken private for marginally more than you paid could be your best outcome.

I think its been executed perfectly so far and anticipate a lower take out figure....

fenners66, I do not gamble, I make informed choices, some incorrect I regret to say but as you say there is a chance/risk that this will be taken private but I can see a great deal of value in the Brand and although I expect to see another loss for the full year, the potential is the attraction. Do you know if the divorce has been settled yet?

Maybe Mike Ashley will put in a bid and put the tea rooms and brand in HoF.
