I didn't think Paul's blog was subscriber based?

Properties are not cheap in the chosen location (London isn't either) one thing I never gleaned from RNS is just how much savings (by not renting) would be balanced against the cost of purchase. As with all spending in business there must be a case for the financials.

Becasue I lacked that info I simply raised the EV calculation to adjust for fair value (which lowerewd as a consequence). Nevertheless it panned out still as very cheap and is even more so now.

Market is very shaky right presently as uncertainty prevails and risk and fear take over as key drivers for Mr. Market and his phsycologist. I'm a buyer at 26p. A long term holder from there I suspect.

Property was roughly £10M in cash and £20M debt.

"
The Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Laura Ashley (Asia) Pte Ltd ("Laura Ashley Asia"), has today exercised the Option to purchase a commercial property in Singapore (the "Property") for a cash consideration of Singapore Dollars ("SGD") 66 million (approximately £31.1 million at the exchange rate of £1 : SGD 2.119) (collectively referred to as the "Acquisition"). The Acquisition will be completed 4 weeks from today's date ("Completion").

The Acquisition will be partially funded by a SGD 42.9 million debt facility provided by DBS Bank Limited secured against, inter alia, the Property. The remaining consideration of SGD 23.1 million will be funded out of the Company's cash reserves.

I think the property purchase will cost £30m. When the purchase is complete this uses up the £20m in the bank and leaves them with £10m of debt.

SRP you mention 20 mill in the bank ..but wasn't a third of that used to part fund the property purchase?
I'm still trying to get my head round spending so much money on a property

Badtime,

The money went East, no one has a clue where it went.

It looked like a decent buy pre dividend but I second guessed a fall after dividend.

I don't know how to post charts but its bouncing off long term (5 years +) support at 26.25p. Will be interesting to see how it closes today. My educated guess would be above this point.

So we now have a 17 month accounting period as "the Board considers that the change of the accounting reference date will facilitate the preparation of the Company's consolidated financial statements."

A bit odd. Perhaps of no consequence.

But together with no RNS for sales representing 13% of the company and the Singapore office, these things make me a bit nervous.

I'd love to reinvest in this company for its dividend yield, cash position, steady sales and international potential but I'm just a bit suspicious. I wish I weren't. Perhaps I'll risk it.

bones30... good spot. Last time a trade volume of that significance occurred was in 2001. Majority of last Thursday's trades were done over three separate trades totalling 9,525,000 shares or ~ 13 percent of the company.

I wonder of it has anything to do with the CEO's divorce settlement. No RNS issued to date.

I'm happy as long as they keep paying the divi. Held these for many years, would be nice to see some capital growth also.

MoS article page 96 "Laura Ashley hotels boost". LA plans to expand its chain of hotels by converting more properties from its sister brand, Corus Hotels.
