Good to see some progress on Tortue

Commenting on the Company's first quarter 2024 performance, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew G. Inglis said: "Kosmos has had an active start to the year, continuing the operational and financial momentum we saw in 2023. Operationally, we've brought four new wells online at Jubilee and first oil at Winterfell is expected shortly, both important milestones for the Company as we target 50% production growth from the second half of 2022 to year-end 2024. We've also seen significant progress at Tortue with the FLNG arriving on location, completion of the deepwater pipelay and the FPSO en route to the project site. In Equatorial Guinea, we're pleased to have secured a high quality rig for the infill and ILX campaign later this year. We are also advancing our next set of growth projects, securing long lead items for Tiberius and a two-year license extension granted for Yakaar-Teranga.

Will give Total some time to process and analyse the new seismic acquired in Namibia. I presume the Mira will be staying on to drill another Venus pre-development/appraisal well.

Yep, PEL82, where HRT recovered light oil from the Wingat 1 well all those years ago. This is an important entry into the Walvis basin by a global major. It pretty much guarantees a drillrig will be here over next 18-24months. Possibly sooner.Once again, Sintana really unlocking the future for its shareholders. The real value add here is the relationship between Robert Bose and his team with Knowledge-Katti/Custos, bringing Knowledge Katti onto Sintana's board was a very good move. Because KK and Custos are hand in hand with Namcor and its stated strategy for the Country. Cash

DALLAS, Texas, April 29, 2024 - Kosmos Energy (NYSE/LSE: KOS) ("Kosmos" or the "Company") announced today that it has successfully re-financed its reserve-based lending ("RBL") facility extending the maturity by approximately three years, with the RBL facility's final maturity now in December 2029......

......Neal Shah, Chief Financial Officer, said "Re-financing the RBL facility is another important step to optimize Kosmos' capital structure and proactively address our debt maturities. With the re-financing of the RBL and the recent convertible bond issuance, we have no maturities until 2026 and lower interest expense going forward. We thank our bank group for their continued support as we grow the company."

Patrick P is already suggesting 3 FPSO's for (presumably) Venus.

150 to 180 Kbopd FPSO's typically require 500 to 600 mmbo to develop. So we would seem to be heading towards the top end of the oft-mentioned "2 bn barrels for Venus" already!

Upstream "TotalEnergies is looking to sanction the first phase of its huge Venus project offshore Namibia in late 2025, targeting production of as much as 180,000 barrels per day.

Venus is currently thought to hold about 2 billion barrels of recoverable oil, with chief executive Patrick Pouyanne making clear previously that it will be a phased development requiring multiple floating production, storage and offloading vessels.

Speaking to analysts today during the supermajor’s first-quarter results webcast, Pouyanne said: “We recently finished a positive appraisal well on Venus and we are targeting the end of 2025 for a final investment decision. We’re speaking of a development with around 150,000-to-180,000 bpd.”......

PP also said something like this in reply to an analyst enquiring about flow rates/reservoir characteristics etc etc "We spent an awful lot of money and human capital acquiring the data we now have on Namibia so why should we give that information away for free!"

He also put Barclays Paul Chang firmly back in his box for asking a Q that had already been answered and then having the temerity to ask a 3rd Q rather than respecting the two Q convention :)

Not a huge amount of new detail and the hosting company played that tired but relaxing Texan music.

Intending to FID initial FPSO by end of 2025. 1st development and we'll see others to follow. 2 or 3 from Total to start with incl 1st. With maybe 6 or 7 FPSO's in the basin including other operators initially. Has potential to be another Guyana. Exploration still at very early stages. Total have a similar prospect to Mopane that will be drilled. PP did comment that in 25yrs of expln he's never known just 2 wells to prove up 10bn bbls (OOIP) but let's see! (in other words there's a lot more work to do on Mopane in his opnion)

First FPSO will be 150 to 180 Kbopd. Good news from AOI's perspective as completely carried by Total to first oil. It's a decent sized vessel. Ultimate scale of FPSO limited by topsides and need to re-inject (not flare) associated gas as GOR relatively high.

Maybe will drill S. Afr in 2025.

Namibia will be next frontier for industry to establish a competitive contractor base to deliver competitive projects. Very happy/optimistic that Namibia will fall into Total's strict FID metrics CAPEX $/bbl etc etc.

Conclusion: It's not a question of if? or even when? It is going to happen!

Cash the webcast is in 38 mins. Don't be surprised if Patrick P keeps everyone guessing for many months yet. But anything he says on any matter oil and gas is usually worth listening to even if nothing to do with Namibia! Would imagine, in the light of Mopane that there will be one or two Q's on Venus etc. And the music is typically very uplifting in a French kind of way ;-)

Thx for the updates cash. My Sintana's are doing very well but not exactly a huge chunk of my E&P's. If only Africa Oil were performing as well! Dr Mello is the fast talking, ejected former CEO of what was HRT Petroleum and has always been a believer in Walvis/Luderitz basins informed by his very good understanding of Campos Brazil. HRT drilled 2 or 3 wells (in Walvis, I think?) but wells failed, although proved concept of a working petroleum system. I don't recall Mello talking much about Orange Basin, as conventional wisdom in the day, was that anything south of Walvis Arch was, relatively speaking versus north of, unprospective. How times change!

Over to Patrick P (Total Energies). 1Q Results merely say "The company positively appraised the Venus discovery in Namibia and the Cronos in Cyprus".

Cronos gets a further mention whereas Venus does not!
"Positive appraisal of the Cronos gas discovery in block 6, in Cyprus"

This is kind of normal Patrick P stuff. He likes to underplay things before ultimately giving out the good news. And it's fun keeping everyone else guessing.
