19/3/2022 18:23 | When investing more of my capital into JRS, I asked myself Two questions: 1. Why are the 3 largest share holders in JRS, all of which are Western Asset managers, selling out of the Trust? It seems to me all they are doing is to sell at any price just to follow the party line. 2. Are the Value of JRS current assets worth 90% less then they were a few months ago? I doubt it very much. Trying to be fair, lets say the value of JRS assets are down 50% with the share price down 90%. This means there is a high likelihood in the future that JRS share price will rebound to circa 400p as this is most probably the true value of the assets held by JRS. | loganair

19/3/2022 16:12 | Analysts have criticized the Russian government for not announcing a significant stimulus package to help support the economy. The latest initiatives outlined by the government focus on tax breaks, credit holidays and cheap loans — similar to the measures adopted during the coronavirus pandemic. Nabiullina warned the government against the introduction of more restrictive measures, such as price controls. “There are sufficient amounts of staple foods in reserve, and production is increasing. Once this period of high demand passes, prices for these goods might even start to come down,” she said Friday. “It’s important not to introduce price controls. They are an artificial measure that won’t address deficits. Administrative measures will slow down the economy’s adaptation to the new conditions.” | loganair
19/3/2022 16:07 | “In the first minutes after trading is opened, after so many days of downtime, a lot of buy and sell applications will be coming into the market,” Vasiliy Karpynin, head of analytics at BKS Investments, a Moscow-based brokerage. “Foreigners accounted for about 48% of the turnover in stocks and bond trading in 2021. After the lifting of restrictions ... there may be a flood of sellers,” he added. Many large Western investment funds have already announced plans to divest all Russian assets, while others have already written off huge losses and will be prepared to sell at any price. Trading in equities of Russian companies — expected to be the most volatile part of the market — will not resume on Monday, the Central Bank said. The Russian government has proposed blocking foreigners from selling Russian shares once trading does restart in order to protect Russians. It has also set aside up to 1 trillion rubles ($10 billion) to buy Russian shares when the market reopens in order to avoid the worst of a massive sell-off. Loko Invest's Polevoy says that money comes from Russia’s national welfare fund. Middle-class Russians have flooded into the stock market in recent years, boosted by relaxed legislation, low commissions and mobile brokerages. Many had already booked heavy losses in the market sell-offs before Moscow invaded Ukraine — and are now braced for further write-downs once trading eventually restarts. | loganair

19/3/2022 15:16 | Nabiullina had a bit of an argument with Putin, told him what is exactly what, and it was being reported that she had put in her resignation. I understand from my acquaintances in Russia that Putin would not accept her resignation so she has decided to stay as the Governor of the CBR. | loganair

19/3/2022 15:07 | Russia’s stock market to gradually resume trading on Monday: Central bank governor: Russia’s stock market will gradually resume trading on Monday after three weeks of suspending most transactions, the country’s central bank governor said on Friday. The stock section of the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) will restart trading in federal government bonds, Elvira Nabiullina said. "To prevent excessive volatility and ensure a balanced liquidity position in this segment at the stage of the reopening, the Bank of Russia will purchase federal government bonds," Nabiullina said. "These purchases will be made in the amounts needed to prevent risks to financial stability," she added. Nabiullina said the central bank plans to sell the entire portfolio of these bonds in order to neutralize the impact on monetary policy after financial markets stabilizes. | loganair

19/3/2022 13:30 | That might be interesting as the Russian market will be able to trade the 27 stocks the LSE suspended. Could have been a good investment opportunity for JRS if they were able to take advantage of it, with the ruble being so low against just about every other currency. | markus1970
