Well that was an interesting trade at the close , a 155,000 buy at 574p!
That is enough to get LHG posting again.

There was always at least one shareholder who ended up on the floor - but not to eat more just drunk

It seems appropriate to me that the food at JHD AGM should be eaten off the floor...

Fish goujons and tartare sauce, plus the cheeseboard stick in my mind, Holiday Inn Bolton I think, years ago. No alcohol, driving 🙂

Beer? I must start going to more AGMs. The best I've ever had was nescafé and asda chocolate biscuits.

Heard a whisper from my broker it’s another agm with no food and drink. I can’t say I’ve been to many at JHD but it was always good to grab a beer an talk to some of the management. Covid!!

IC has just published another review of JHD , as predicted, though it's conclusion was hold (@552p). Bit cautious about next yr's growth.

I think given JHD’s 40 year track record, I’m happy to cut them some slack and if they think it’s a good idea, I’ll go along with it.

I think they’ve done share splits in the past and eventually the share price has returned to it’s pre-split level, that would definitely make me feel good.

I'm afraid it doesn't have a feel good factor for me. It has a 'why is the company wasting money and time on meaningless nonsense' factor. The only argument they put forward is that it will increase liquidity, but with 200 million shares trading at around a fiver I don't believe that's a serious problem here, or that changing it to 400 million trading between £2 and £3 will have much effect, beyond giving a few elderly shareholders heart attacks.

No, BDA, I gave up Trading ; I only ever Invest now. Though now and then I find my fingers moving towards the sell button of their own accord...

I know a bonus is just the same value of shares but it does have a " feel good factor"
I feel for wadcollector - every time the price goes up he has to sell

buy some AO shares that should sort the problem

Just finished reading it , a lengthy tome, longer than previous yrs by recall. It points out that turnover and profit are up 5 and 6% against the 2019 figures; remarkable ! And a record dividend.
Although there are a number of cautions within it about supply chain demand and stock levels being down, if you bear in mind the usual JHD cautious understatement, it seems reasonable to price this a little ahead of the share price levels in 2019.
So hard to imagine it is going to hang around the current 550p (Up 30p on the day), especially once a few brokers upgrades and IC tip come through ( Guessing on the IC one but they do seem to like tipping JHD).
Thought about adding , but these are now 10% of my portfolio so the head says no!
To clarify the distinction between share split and bonus issue just looked at
hxxps://www.elearnmarkets.com/blog/stock-split-vs-bonus-issue/
though I remain unconvinced as to why a bonus issue is a capitalisation of profits.

The market always knows - so they say.
The pre close said it was going to be record sales and profit !
So pbt has to be £48 m or so!

Of course the other thing that Jhd is overdue doing is a bonus issue! Looking back it always seemed to happen when share price got over &4 and certainly when they were £5. Totally out of fashion for years but twice as many at half the price ! The shares always seem to rise after a split .

A bonus issue and a special and a record dividend with record sales and record profit - I wouldn’t bet against it !

I see ADVFN missed that special in their metrics. That gradual upward pattern is not a feature of many of my holdings unfortunately! Hold and slowly prosper.
About the only thing that worries me here is the possibility of a change in the IHT relief rules with respect to most AIM shares, which there are mumblings about occasionally in the financial press. I suspect a fair amount of these are held by PIs looking to avoid IHT , not withstanding their attraction as a well run company in a tidy niche.

Feb 2016 according to the company website, 7.858p. As the Halstead family still speak for approx 40% of the shares (from memory, could be wrong) I’d imagine they’d be partial to an occasional special divi too 🙂 However, in the current climate, I’d expect them to keep the cash back for a rainy day.

Their website says they’ve “delivered year on year dividend increases since 1977”, that’s impressive.

Been 8 yrs since the last special, that would be good though not a company that is exactly famed for its yield!

Short term yes , log term no I reckon. They love understatement.
It would not be a bad exit point if you like trading or need the cash but most of mine here have only made 5 or 10% and missed a few divis.
That said I am a bit heavy here and tempted to topslice my more recent ones.
