Hope you all had a good happy healthy Xmas and best wishes for 2024 and beyond.

As readers will know I believe our strategic partnership with Porotech will be a very important driver for revenues in the future ( no I can’t define the time period but it’s getting closer)so it’s worthwhile reading this appraisal of Porotech in 2023 and watching the video

Porotech have updated their website and it makes interesting and exciting reading

Then for more on the technology and importantly for us the epitaxy

Remember in the MAY 2022 announcement of the strategic alliance IQE said this

The intention is for IQE to be Porotech's epitaxial wafer foundry partner, providing GaN MOCVD capacity for the volume production of Porotech's PoroGaN® microdisplay technology platforms. Together, the companies will develop and productionise 200mm manufacturing platforms as well as 300mm wafer formats.

Americo Lemos, Chief Executive Officer of IQE, commented:

"This partnership marks IQE's entrance into the microLED market with a unique platform. As we stated in March 2022, we believe the microLED market presents a significant opportunity for our business. IQE's proven heritage in GaN epitaxy and our industry-leading footprint in high volume wafer manufacturing combined with Porotech's PoroGaN® microdisplay technology platform, will create a compelling and differentiated product offering.''

Porotech, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Dr Tongtong Zhu, added:

"IQE's deep heritage and innovation in MOCVD epitaxial growth technologies, as well as its mass production capability, are optimised for very small high-brightness microLED pixels that match perfectly with Porotech's platform. We look forward to working together to commercialise this solution."

All that is now of course coming closer to mass production guven Porotechs recent announcement of a partnership with FOXCON who wouldn’t be bothered if the volume was not expected to be very large?

Wishing everyone a great Christmas, let’s hope 2024 is the year IQE gets its act together and we start to prosper! My breakeven is 35p so here’s hoping Americos incentive package and his large investment from his own wallet are signs of what’s to come! 🎄 🎅🏻 🔔 🥂

Sweenoid - I think you're mistaken in saying Judge Carney has previously found Tower guilty in the patent trial.

It's confusing, but my reading of the situation is:-

IQE initially made breach of patent claims against Tower on seven counts.

Tower asked to strike three of the seven claims based on anti-SLAPP laws. Judge Carney refused, but said they can appeal his decision to a different court (Ninth Circuit). This judgement and permission to appeal was just regarding Tower's request to throw out three of the charges, it was NOT for the patent claims.

IQE requested that the remaining charges should still be heard but Carney stayed the patent trial on all counts, awaiting decision from the appeal court as to which claims could be heard.

The three judges in the Ninth Circuit recently determined that their court does not have juristiction for the appeal, and passed it to the Federal Circuit.

The text of the January motion seems to suggest that the patent trial will resume before Judge Carney with just those charges not included in the Anti-SLAPP appeal, so I wonder what happens to the other three and where that appeal is heard.

Anyway, I'd be delighted if you're right, but it seems to me that far from being decided in IQE's favour, the actual patent case hasn't even started yet!

Not sure at all that the ‘hearing’; on 22nd Jan will be the end of it at all, the wording of the order states

NOTICE OF MOTION AND MOTION to Lift Stay re the Causes of Action that are not included in the current Anti-SLAPP Appeal filed by Plaintiff IQE plc. Motion set for hearing on 1/22/2024 at 01:30 PM before Judge Cormac J. Carney. (Pagnanelli, Karin)

The wording is ‘opaque’ but at least we know the federal court will be the final determiner and at least in this action we have the same judge who found entirely in our favour in the primary court case ( before Tower appealed). I discount that Tower will settle at this stage but hope they do.

Tower will use every trick in the book to grind this out for as long as possible. It’ll mirror what Russia are doing with Ukraine, hoping and expecting the opposition to fold at some point, for much less punishment than the court may dole out.

Nothing here that some of us don’t already know, worth a read anyhow especially if you aren’t familiar with the technology
Once again - the CSA catapult is situated IN the IQE mega factory at Newport.

If customers are not meeting forecast orders, then it is only fair to charge full prices from the start and give rebates as volumes are achieved. Stop supplying if they do not pay promptly.

The customer must be made to carry the risk of their own unrealistic forecasts.

If they do not agree to these terms, just avoid doing business with them.

Hello People. Being rather sad I actually read the RNS post 15 Dec re 'Holdings' and learned Canaccord's total voting rights stood at 115 million. On September 19th the figure was reportedly 96 million and on November 14th, 106 million. Canaccord have been institutional holders for many years through good times and bad. Presumably they're backing IQE now for sound reasons. Opinions? Thanks, Mark

1knocker - agreed. Some of IQE’s past partnerships clearly haven’t spread set up costs fairly between supplier & buyer. If IQE foots the significant tooling & commissioning costs, only to find the customer’s sales projections don’t materialise, guess who’s stuffed? Clue: it’s not the customer.

Historically, IQE also can’t have priced their end products correctly. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had years of stagnant sales & heavy losses. For years, the company has been at pains to claim it’s the world-leading supplier. Well, if so, it should have had pricing power. And it either didn’t. Or failed to exert it. A basic schoolboy error really, largely brought about by a non-commercial techie (Admiral Nelson) trying to run a commercial operation.

I’ve much more confidence in Lemos. But his own share buys are still no substitute for hard sales coupled with a decent profit margin. As I said before, time to walk the walk now. Or it’s game over.

It is on margins, profits, that IWE has always fallen short. it does not matter how much you sell if you do not make a profit. In this sector, there are high and low margin products, for some products it is a buyers and others a sellers market, and tooling up for any product is very capital intensive. this is a very tough sector for small players.

Any IQE business plan, and any trading statement, needs to read with those considerations firmly in mind.

crosswires - agreed. In fact I'd go one further and say we need strong sales & profits next FY.

Not simply new deals (which might deliver value somewhere down the line. Or might not, knowing IQE's track record).

They've had the best part of a decade to line things up. High time they stopped talking & started delivering.

As we know what the semi market does often isn’t replicated by IQE, for that you want an ETF on the sector, which has incidentally almost doubled in the past year thankfully!

Let’s see what January brings re any forward market guidance. To sustain this share price increase we need something more concrete from Americo than 3x this and 2x that, what we need is some strong revenue generating deals.

This is the big plus for IQE. The market they are in is meant to grow hugely over next few years. If they can grab a chunk of market share here they will do really well.

Canaccord moped up nearly 10m shares. As predicted heavily buying still.

Interesting news although AR isn’t going to be anything like as large a market as “mobile” imo and however big it gets it won’t be until AR Glass can be streamlined as a wearing experience (which is apparently circa 2027) so it won’t be huge volume for some time. Still tiny acorns…

GAN is really where we have the opportunity to start to turn IQE back into a winner once more.

Exciting news from Porotech and by its position as strategic supplier for IQE as well ✅

Dr Tongtong Zhu, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Porotech, commented:
“Our collaboration with Foxconn signifies a momentous step forward for MicroLED Microdisplays and AR.

If you need to refresh your memory of the strategic partnership this is a different link than I gave a few days ago but tells the same story

AR is going to be a HUGE market and being a key part of a supply chain is pivotal to progress. Foxconn are a massive company and wouldn’t be ‘interesting’ in manufacturing a ‘few’ chips, they are ALLabout MASS production as can be seen from their news just
yesterday

Usual 1m sells like Invesco do and the usual buyer Canaccord putting in multiple trades at lots of different times. 2x690k trades too. The way Canaccord and Invesco did their last holdings RNS both sit either side of the % mark indicating they were still buying or selling.

Cannacord forcing IQE up again and now above where the share issue said it was worth. They are very confident about this share. 100% they are one of the buyers here.

Really not expecting an amazing TU in Jan. Maybe they are slightly ahead of forecasts? Barclay broker page has not changed in weeks. Unless IQE reveal large orders in pipeline. At 23-24p where is your confidence to buy here?

The share won't crash while a big fund is mopping up millions of shares.

Yep a lot rides on the TU, on the plus side the forecasts ate so pessimistic that we shouldn't in theory struggle to exceed them.
