03/7/2014 16:15 | I have been in QFI since 5p, I think it could hit 100p in the next 6-9 months...NAI | ![]() cyberbub
03/7/2014 15:53 | To remove any doubt, form the SEIA site application forms That letter dated December 24, 2012, Mr. Eliezer Mauricio Zenteno Fuentes, representing Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapó, manifests an intention to withdraw from the System of Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Impact Statement Project "North-North Project Iodine Production Chiza Pampa ". That letter dated May 10, 2012, Mr. Eliezer Mauricio Zenteno Fuentes, representing Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapó, manifests an intention to withdraw from the System of Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Impact Statement Project "Production of Iodine Huara ". So it seems Copiapo had plans to produce iodine (when the prices were high) and started a seawater pipeline, but then abandoned the EIA process for the mines. So it seems they will in the future pump and sell seawater to Cosayach. Perhaps SQM should buy Copiapo. | ![]() superg1

03/7/2014 12:32 | Well I was hoping we would see a nice strong bounce today, the reason being the market decided to test the 50 DMA yesterday. A nice strong bounce today shows the market continues to price in recovery here IMHO. | ![]() che7win
03/7/2014 10:41 | Yes, SG, I appreciate all the research and, like phoenixs, I was amused to see your two "red tick" followers on every single post (but then one disappeared, must be sleeping things off). I firmly believe in two or three years' time, everyone who is still in here will be very happy (but, then, that's why I'm invested, so that's not much news, really!). It will be good to see iodine prices rise again... from what you are posting, it all seems inevitable (famous last words). | ![]() madchick

03/7/2014 10:24 | sg, it really does amuse me how there is always at least 1 "thumbs down" when you post informative information. Is there an automatic button or maybe even panic button on this site?....and any ideas what sort of demented idiot is doing it? | ![]() phoenixs

03/7/2014 10:06 | A main task now (with those water laws due early August) is to research through the SEIA whether or not SQM have applications in for any pipelines. They would not have done that for Nueve Victoria due to the water rights, and their intent to move to Pampa Blanca. Pampa Blanca was supposed to be SQMs big move and started this year as their mines are depleting. The costs involved was said to be $665 million, which they shelved. They did mention a pacific pipeline, in that form 20 a while back but logic would state it would be for the Pampa Blanca area. So I wonder of they have an application in or have stopped it due to he move being shelved. It could spell trouble for them if they don't have a pipeline application currently running. | ![]() superg1
03/7/2014 10:05 | it wouldn't surprise me if nothing came out until after the long w/e in the US. Thinking and hoping that there may even may a fuller update covering the 1st 6 months of the year and maybe give some guidance for next three months. It would certainly calm nerves for some. | ![]() phoenixs
03/7/2014 09:53 | Some important bits re that recent SQM/Cosayach/Copiapo news Part 1 is that the failure against Cosayach was to do with trying to overturn the EIA permit for the Soledad area for Cosayach, and area where Cosayach have produced for years. The water theft case related to Cala and Negreiros which cover 60% of Cosayach production. The Copiapo issue is about the building of pipelines for seawater but it didn't make any real sense re the location, distance and height above sea level for that project. It's a long way from SQM and other activity January 2012 re Copiapo "Construction is expected to start immediately, while the company waits for approval of the EIAs for two US$55mn iodine projects in the region, known as Huara and Pampa Chiza." Note these applications relate to the time iodine prices were high. You will be pleased to hear that both applications Pampa Chiza, and Huara have been withdrawn. I assume they were not viable with the price drop. The details of the withdrawn applications are on the Chile SEIA site if anyone wants to look them up. The recent SQM case says "Copiapó's US$5.5mn project involves transporting 900m3/h of seawater from the Junín accumulation pond to the Chinquiquiray pond to supply the company's Negreiros operation" That part is in relation to supply of seawater to Cosayach at their Negreiros site. However that application above was running at the same time that Cosayach had an EIA application in for Negreiros. Late last year Cosayach withdrew their EIA application for that area. Thus the whole lot looks like future projects and would involve the supply of seawater to Cosayach, to an area where Cosayach withdrew their application (also on the SEIA site), and where they have been recently convicted of offences re water and environmental damage. So it would seem in the future Cosayach may buy seawater from Copiapo, which no doubt would be more expensive on the opex side than pumping their own, but would save them the capex, and EIA process for pipelines. It would certainly cost a lot more than nicking fresh water, which is what they have relied on over the last year or so. | ![]() superg1
03/7/2014 09:48 | Think it's Monday now. They'll have the June production figs by now so something else will be included, ie at least I05/6 as others have suggested. | engelo
03/7/2014 09:42 | Yes, it looks like next week. Hoping for a steady increase in production. | ![]() rogerbridge
03/7/2014 08:28 | Yes, I'm also looking forward to it - would like to see if they are able to maintain production at current levels and how the other plants are progressing (should be almost finished now). I hope they may say something about how the testing is going with removing the chemical (I understand they need to continue to test and I really don't want them to cut corners on it, but just a "going well at the moment" statement would be nice). I was hoping for it today as well, but maybe Monday or Tuesday now... | ![]() madchick
03/7/2014 07:10 | Hmmm.. no update yet...Could come later today, or tomorrow despite it being a US public holiday. Or they might be holding it back until Monday if that means they can also announce the full power connection of IO5 or whatever.Looking forward to it... | ![]() cyberbub
02/7/2014 21:16 | Vote it down all you like it's what Minera Copipao are doing, so the attempt by SQM was in all probability to block/overturn an EIA application for the pipeline. Yes SQM will worry as new water laws are pending and I understand they haven't got their own application in place (will check). They planned the big move then suspended it. They have 7 years left at Neuve Victoria their main site, but No pipeline planned as it's a depleting mine. Pampa Blanca is the new area they were top develop ($635 mill) and build any pipeline to there, post EIA approval. Those applications take a long time. superg1 2 Jul'14 - 13:04 - 22477 of 22480 1 3 edit Just to add The Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapo part seems to relate to a seawater pipeline project rather than an existing system. SCM Copiapó Invest $ 13 Million Invest $ 13 million Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapó in the development of the "adduct Seawater Minera Copiapó in Junin Sector" which will supply seawater to nonmetallic mining sites in the coastal area of Caleta Junín, 130 km North of the city of Iquique, in the Commune of Huara province of Iquique in the First Region. According to project basis Portal Minero, the project involves the construction of a system of adduction seawater at a rate of 250 l / s (900 m3 / h), which will be transported by pumping system through pipes to a total height of 1,190 meters above sea level static about where the storage pool will be located, this in order to supply water for industrial use in the leaching of non-metallic mining operations in the area. | ![]() superg1

02/7/2014 13:04 | Just to add The Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapo part seems to relate to a seawater pipeline project rather than an existing system. So it seems SQM were trying to block the EIA approval of the pipeline. | ![]() superg1
02/7/2014 12:47 | Ors/Fresh The Cosayach part was out the other day. It was an attempt to reverse a decision some time back re the EIA approval for the Soledad area. The latest on is for a company called Sociedad Contractual Minera Copiapó. They transport seawater. So maybe it's in some way linked re that. They mention Negrieros, but Cosayach withdrew their EIA for the Negrieros area late last year. Thinking logically if it means Cosaych are to purchase water form a company that pumps it from the sea, then the costs will be higher than Cosayach could pump it for themselves. The water theft news mentioned Cala cala and Negreiros. The first of those cases was for Soledad. They have no water rights, so from nicking water for free, it seems they could buy in seawater and it won't be cheap. | ![]() superg1 |
