I had a theory that the seller was the 1 million share buyer in the 60's late last year.

To date from the same supply route about 1 mill have been sold.

It could be an entirely different supplier. Just a case of seeing if it returns and continues.

You never know with the games they play.

I'm watching for that 10 to 12 ish time when typically blocks have been sold.

Someone was definitely picking them off at 30p through PEEL, hmmmm, now who could that be.

Lack of it in Chile or the sale of it in the US.

I see Brazil are in serious trouble re water.

Some SQM mines are in the region north of Atacama III but quite a bit further north than RB energy.

I know those mines (1 recently closed) rely on 2 rivers so I'll be keeping an eye on those.

It is a bit close to RB energy, they are in the region above Atacama III about 120 km away.

They rely on water rights for their production.

It's the first time I've seen that area mentioned, Coquimbo (IV) has been in the news for some time.

Methane around I see.

It's starting

For those that don't know what I mean. The Chile Government have been bringing in water laws to control water rights should this long drought start affecting basic rights to water.

It's just hit two areas. I don't believe they are iodine areas I will check Atacama III as I don't know where that is, Coquimbo (IV) is well south of iodine country.

It's relevant as SQM's main mine, along with ACF Minera in the same area rely on ground water to operate (6000 - 8000 mt production area). Cosayach are there too but they have a pipeline being built.

Just pointing out the gov do have powers to shut industrial water use down and the drought is getting worse.

We are great studiers of human nature Graham, we target the weak. We make money out of bad stocks, because we think, we read, we note... Yes we drink, but only following the very deepest of research. We will win Graham, because we are better than you.

We think it's all a scam Graham... We think it has been designed, not to make money Graham... We think it's all a con Graham.

That's what we think Graham, men & women of very great wisdom Graham.

The way I look at it isn't the production any more but the apparent daft share price v what has been reported and the circumstances of the industry, with a likely iodine price hike this year, hence I'll be backing the research. It would be pointless doing it otherwise.

Water permit hearing. Odds very heavily stacked in IOFs favour 1/50 imo.

Approx $8m to $10m in the bank going on things said.

If they get the permit it's likely to end up as a JV with a large cheque up front and no costs.

Ignoring the above, and just talking iodine. They are looking at a 500mt rate this year as it stands but the end result should be higher

I already know that revenues in the year end results are 35% up meaning about $25 mill in revenue with costs in H2 slashed.

They will be either break even or slightly the other side either way.

PE 15 11.8p per £1 mill profit. Price 30p representing not a lot in terms of the potential.

At times like this funds abandon the small caps, which is exactly the time I take an interest as you can get the shares and cheaply without too much of a battle. There is a supply and clearly a few are picking them up.

If the supply dries up permit awarded and a large cheque arrives, I suspect some may trouble to get them in the numbers and price they would like, but then others including me don't worry too much about price.

It was 30p when they weren't producing any iodine around 4 years ago and no proven tech revenue has more than doubled since then. This year will be the 5th year that revenues have risen from about £3.5 to around £16 mill.

So if I can't back this one what is the point of looking at the AIM in the first place.

It's a nutty place that does offer some daft looking prices both ways.

Oh yes that reminds me, Just eat, M/C near £2 billion. Does anyone ever actually use that. No one has ever mentioned it to me. I know which restaurants I like and I know their numbers, and I know what I want before I ring them.

I've not looked at it yet but someone mentioned the MC today which sounded daft.

So eng how much more than the 40mt /month do they need?
I reckon that is a big ask, I would be happy with 80mt/month for this year!

Came across this in Che's post 28185:

'SQM played the market the right way, they have to be given credit.
IOF too did the right thing this year, Lance knew what he was doing cutting costs, I dare say he remains in close communication with SQM as they previously supplied us with our iodine.'

The degree of comms with SQM is exactly what's on my mind right now. If SQM are indeed aiming for 30% of the market that leaves plenty of room for IOF, and SQM may have seen that the US market will inexorably move to IOF as we not only have lower Opex but also a transport cost advantage.

Come on IOF: No 1 in the world is only 31% :-)

Whatever it is no doubt negative, but if you are a buyer then these prices are very nice. Just picking away while the supply is around bit by bit, it's the best way.

10 ish to 12 ish block seller as mentioned last week. Not aggressive as they are doing it daily and have been for a while.

Best guess is whoever bought 1 million in the 60's and it all seems to have started in mid January on the selling. By my calcs if it's them they should be done this week, if not them maybe a few to go, who knows.

Gad thanks

I saw the +3% move on the usual 21.6 mt shipment. I did cross check and it doesn't seem to relate to exchange rates.

A case of keeping an eye on it which you clearly are.

Re Water permit service areas. I noted an exchange in a permit last night.

The agreed acceptable service area for a depot on a permit is a 100 mile radius covering 12 counties.

IOF's claim is for a 50 mile radius with 5 counties mentioned. Carlisle calls that exaggerated. Clearly it isn't, and a precedent has already been set.

I have sent the details to the relevant folk.

For information:
The Zauba site shows a small increase in the import price of 99.5% iodine for January at $31.96/kg, compared to $31.42/kg in December and an all time low of £30.73/kg in November of last year.
