Could this sudden price rise after 4.30 be signalling a bid or MBO?
Obviously this is ridiculously under-priced and I wish I'd bought more.

The CE and Chairman have sold 20 million pounds of stock in the last 10 years, but bought just a few hundred thousand this year. Whatever the statement isn't this going to the knackers yard?

indeed, now the approximate extent of the damage is known there may be a bit of a recovery in the share price after the *massive* fall in recent months. Helped by the fact the shares are tightly held..

Trading update:- Looks like total loss of management control. I would suggest not terminal as price to sales ratio must now be one of the lowest in it's sector. However takeover proof unless the controlling family agree to sell.

Will be interesting either way.

Mister. Thanks for the info. I think my point was why the share price was so low and I was not saying this was a no go investment. It is a punt but over the next 18months it could well recover.

look at the investor relations part of their website: cards are only 8% of their sales (main part is giftwrap, accesories, crackers)

chief exec bought 80000 at 2.55 late last yr, other members of mgt team also bought shares. Think I'll take a gamble and get a few of these...! DYOR etc

I also think the card industry might be in threat over the comming years/decades. When are we going to move on and stop sending cards to people. I think the environment is inevitably going to play its part. We are already talking about banning plastic bags....cards next???? Probably some time for this to happen but when it does it will be a complete change in our ways. Media and government lead proposals and education might mean this transition happens much easier then you may think?? Environmental disasters may also bring this to our attention?? There are so many things we may need to change in terms of habits so this is not the only thing.....Also if there is adownturn in the worlds economy then things such a cards come down low on the orderof priority. A little gllom and doom here but in the current climate of the markets maybe these thoughts have something to do with the share price positon or it is more probably to do with the profits of this company that have come down dramatically.

gelp:- I wish I knew. Price to sales ratio is out of this world.

turnover in 07 was 197 million. FRS3 eps in 07 was 27.7p (source refs)

Worry is borrowing but if they can cut costs and get back to anything like previous levels of profitability then could be a very significant recovery.

I must confess I bought in at higher levels and am now nursing a big loss.

My main worry apart from debt is will people stop using gift wrap and cards and just use the internet and on-line ordering of gifts? Possilby some buisiness will be lost permenantly but share price seems a little overdone.

However I suspect that there may be a forced seller in the market and until he is done the price could continue to drift down.

Hope this helps.

There was no great number of shares traded before announcement - as a s/h I would not ask for investigation.December warning was read better by some than others.

Small trades brought the price down - perhaps the reverse can happen.

Elimination of divi great idea as benefits the many rather than the few & will enable profits to come back quicker.

Clearly quite a few felt that the bottom was reached early today - lets hope they are right - but anything goes in this market!
