nghomi - the price paid is not the same as the price displayed on Henoo. This is the fault of the travel companies costing inclusive items as extras and only adding them on when you get to booking. The price can sometimes more than double the original quote and it makes price comparison more difficult and Henoo less relevant. ABTA, the Office of Fair Trading and the Advertising Standards Authority (for offline ads) have been calling for this to stop for about a year now, yet it hasn't. As with so much regulatory enforcement these days, failure to tackle the problem early has made the problem endemic. I enjoyed my Henoo-booked holiday in the Canaries, but would have doubts about using Cosmos again. I don't understand why you can't modify your quote on Mytravel for 5 people. I have had good holidays with them in the past.

If you go to any travel companies sites through Henoo and book the commission
still goes to Henoo

niggle - #872 LOL! Using WPP's Mkt Cap as a guide IBG would have a shareprice in the region of £120! And I'd have a nice Sunseeker yacht!

I am trying to find a suitable ski holidays from Henoo.com. I have two problems so far. It seems that it only gives quotation for one person. When I actualy try to find more details, I end up in mytravel website and the quaoted price will increase (say from £600 to £1400). When I ask for the breakdown, I get under occupancy prices. I cannot find anywhere how I can add info that we are actually a family of five! So that we will not need to pay under occupancy fees! I wonder this is trick done by mytravel to avoid paying any fees to Henoo, because I am not certainly booking anything this way (even as a shareholder) as I am not prepared to more than double per person for my holiday! Another problem I have with it is that I cannot find any more information on the holiday resort. Has anybody actully booked any holiday vai Henoo?

From The Times
February 24, 2007

Surge in internet sales powers WPP's earnings beyond £1bn.

The internet now accounts for nearly 10 per cent of sales at WPP, the global advertising giant, it emerged yesterday as its chief executive, Sir Martin Sorrell, warned against snap judgments on the head of ITV.

The world's second-largest advertising group revealed that internet-related revenues jumped by 20 per cent year-on-year, from $809 million (£414 million) to $974 million.

Internet sales at the advertising empire, whose brands include J Walter Thompson and Grey Global, accounted for more than 9 per cent of worldwide revenue.

The sharp increase in revenues from online spending came as Sir Martin warned investors to give Michael Grade, the recently appointed ITV head, breathing space in his new job.

Throwing his weight behind Mr Grade, he said that the new ITV chief was the kind of "product person" that the network required to revive its fortunes. "If property is about location, location, location, then ITV is about product, product, product and having a product person will make and is making already a big difference."

Sir Martin said that Mr Grade, who was appointed in November, should be given "one or two years, probably two" to settle in.

He also said that the purchase by BSkyB, the satellite broadcaster that is 39.1 per cent owned by News Corporation, parent company of The Times, of a 17.9 per cent stake in ITV was likely to prove fruitful for the network and Mr Grade by "bringing some stability".

Sir Martin was speaking after producing a set of full-year results that outperformed expectations. Revenue at the group in 2006 was up almost 10 per cent on the previous year to £5.9 billion, with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, topping £1 billion for the first time.

I have posted IBG's peers' P/Es a few times, but they change of course. The comparison is favourable but does not seem to be helping the share price for now. I can wait.

yes, cheers aleman - just thought you may have compiled such a table already during your search. Seem to remember something like that being posted earlier in the thread.

A Warren Buffet quote:

"In the short run, the market's a voting machine and sometimes people vote very unintelligently. In the long run, it's a weighing machine and the weight of business and how it does is what affects values over time."

the analyst - there are links to financial news on the IBG sector thread.

I am really getting bugged now. Just seen another company with a couple of hundred thousand turnover go up and now valued at 4mln + Farcical.

I can just hear the Dragon's Den voices now: "You've placed a ludicrous valuation on your company...your sales have been up and down for the last 3 years...you've only sold a couple of hundred thousand pounds worth of stuff...you've made a whopping loss and yet you've put a value of several million on your company. Stop wasting our time-you're living in cloud-cuckoo land."

Fortunately for these companies there's enough gamblers around to keep them going.

The question is does the highest or the lowest P/E win the league?

From a prospective investor's point of view lowest P/E is best, from an existing investor's point of view highest P/E is best.

Of course, what would be most revealing is the PEG!

Do you have a compilation of the affiliate marketing company past present and future PEs Aleman? Might be worth putting into the thread header (even though the figures change daily).

Is it just four listed companies doing affiliate marketing as their main business - DGM, IBG, VCLK and TRAD?

PowerSquid.com

Description:
Modern, mobile lifestyles are driving an ever increasing number of electrical devices in the average home, many of which feature bulky transformer plugs that take up extra outlets on conventional powerstrips.

The PowerSquid® transforms the static power strip into a dynamic power delivery device. By freeing the independent outlets from the confines of the box, it gives the user flexibility, greater reach and ease of use, while easily accommodating transformer blocks.

From IC website today (will appear in results section of tomorrows mag):

INTERNET BUSINESS GROUP (IBG)

Many of the best ideas are simple - and it's a simple idea that's fuelling Internet Business Group's (IBG) profits and share price. A breakdown of the 2005-06 results shows that, in its advertising division, turnover jumped from £4.26m to £10.93m and profits before central overheads more than doubled from £702,000 to £1.62m. So, what does IBG do to produce such tasty returns? It simply lets merchants display banners and text links on a vast variety of websites in return for a fee to the website owner comprising a percentage (normally between 2 and 20 per cent) of the value of any goods subsequently sold by the merchant. IBG also helps merchants plan their advertising campaigns and, for a fee, processes the money they receive.

The performance of the advertising division is all important, too. That's because the original website-hosting business seems to be in decline and the e-commerce site, Sweatband.com (the website's top buy at the moment is a Weider Crunch Trainer for "toning and sculpting your abs" at just £29), faces a lot of competition. IBG says it needs new processors and new management to reduce directors' involvement. On the other hand, the new-media division, which is based around a holiday search engine - and made two acquisitions last summer - was profitable. The most recent acquisition, last month, was the Net Stuff website, which offers freebies and competition prizes. Brokers expect sales of £20m, profits of £1.9m and EPS of 1.9p for 2007.

IC view: There's a decent cash pile so, trading on a forward PE ratio of 16, the shares are a buy.

Oldboy and Aleman

I emailed Maz regarding why second half is bigger than the first and this was his reply

"Yes, January is a big month for travel. But, so are May, June, July and August. Therefore, 1 big month in half one and 3-4 in half two. Also, the market trend is towards later and later booking."

Whilst we are optimistic about the future and think the share price does not reflect the growth prospects there is one thing that would confirm this:

directors buying shares!!

Too late. Sprained ankle seems to have ligament damage from 5-a side at Xmas. I'm hoping the physio just says it is just bad strains next week. I don't know why it is that everybody wants to keep getting me - I must be good. :)
