Short term lack of progress is nothing new masurgenguy.....I wonder if IBG gets the short straw when funds are needed for faster plays.

It is cheap on a forward PE of circa 12. Therefore it is really surprising that there has been quite a bit of selling since the results last Monday.

Seems cheap to me for a fast growing internet stock. Was almost as high as this a year ago with 400k profit. Now made £1.1m with maybe £2m+ next year.

Post results sell off continues.
One has to wonder where the share price would have been if the results and forward projections had been disappointing !

Most of the big affiliate websites still appear quite high in the search engine rankings. Those that don't and are successful will show up in the paid for ads. eg. the boxes on the rhs of the Google results.

Most of the big aff. sites will use multiple networks as the aim is to get return visitors cheaply in the first place and then hope they start buying mobile deals, holidays, gift days etc. which are all high commission.

If you want to find the biggest, then you could take each market area and put in a few searches. See what comes high up in the search results that isn't a real shop. Easy to tell because they won't have shopping baskets !

Also worth seeing what comes up in the paid for ads.

So for instance www.vouchercodes.co.uk will come up somewhere - thats an aff. site set up to just promote checkout savings from the merchants I believe.

Thanks for those suggestions. Just looking at shopsafe I presume that when I put my mouse over an advert and see a link address that starts -

http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?a......

then this is going through AF but when the link address starts -

http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=16352&a=75942&g=95304&url= ......

it's going through the competition!

On the other hand, the link for the shirt advert at the top of this page is -

http://www.advfn.com/oasis/oasisi.php?s=526&c=5009&cb=1190582324.

Does this mean ADVFN has it's own tracking system rather than using a third party?

Fascinating stuff this! :-)

spacecowboy3 I don't think there is but some affiliate sites I know of:

www.shopsafe.com
www.somucheasier.co.uk
www.safebuyer.co.uk

Some just use ppc but others have quite sophisticated php and aspx database driven websites.

Perhaps others can add a few that are travel related.

I'm still trying to understand more about how the AF and IBG Media businesses operate.

I see that the AF website has a full list of Merchants (of which Henoo is just listed the same as all the rest) but I can't seem to find a list of Affiliates. I just wanted to see the sorts of websites in the AF network and get some sort of feel for which type of Affiliate is promoting which type of Merchant.

Is there a way of searching the web for AF-routed adverts? Or maybe someone could just provide a link to some Affiliate sites.

TIA

Maz told me that January is only 1 month of holiday bookings which is first half, whilst may june july & august is the second half of the year and very busy holiday season. SO its 4 months in 2nd hald versus 1 month in first half. He also said that people are booking their holidays later

"Critics hit out at Google's reluctance to search out the click fraudsters"

Maybe someone should tell Mr MacLeish in the article about affiliate marketing.

Philip Remek, an analyst at brokerage Guzman and Company, said: "Click fraud is one of the major risks for search advertising. It seems click fraud is something like viruses that continue to evolve and probably will always be with us as long as [online advertising] runs on a pay-per-click model."

Af are a niche in the travel field so merchants are happy to join af, because affiliates promote tc. Henoo would be an added bonus and tc seem to have every airline with them, its unlikely that henoo will get them all on board in the very near future

not package holidays. But flights,

Thanks - I see that makes more sense (i.e. where TC are acting just as a middleman rather than providing the holdiay themselves).

so if henoo can cut out thomas cook then the ticket in theory should be £20 cheaper then thomas cook (thomas cook, opodo, airline network all seem to have the same prices within a couple of pounds).

But as I've just said in a post above, why would TC play ball in the first place if this is what Henoo are trying to do?
