The world has changed. It's a shame it didn't change earlier. Isn't it true that the affluent have spread the virus especially bringing this into the UK?

spacedust - I would also take an extra weeks leave in reserve just in case as while on holiday one may get a little too much sun or a slight cold or a tummy bug all of which may cause one to have a raised temperature and therefore would not be allowed on the return flight home.

6 weeks annual leave = 1 week of proper holiday at the holiday destination.

Who in their right mind would now ever want to travel on a plane?
This industry is clearly bust isn't it?

Things may never get back to the current level which will be seen as a peak.

So many bogus business trips, not really necessary.
Video conference calls are effective if done properly.
Although it takes practice because of a slight time delay if dealing with America or equivalent range.

Millions packing on to aircraft for cut price holidays.
The pleasures of which are grossly exaggerated.
Keeping up with the Jones's.
How many of us will be relieved that we do not have to keep up the pretence.

The airlines are downsizing immediately, so that is their survival call.
Flying will be more expensive again.
Flying to even European destinations in the past was very expensive.

Following the instigation of worldwide travel restrictions caused by the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, there is still no demand for air travel insight, The Austrian Ministry of Health announced that the current landing bans will also remain in place for a longer period of time.

Therefore, Vienna based Austrian Airlines has decided to extend the suspension of its normal flight schedule for another two weeks, from May 18 to May 31, 2020.

Austrian Airlines can only envisage a slow resumption of regular flight operations in June at the earliest. Nevertheless, Austrian intends to closely monitor the further development and will only resume flight operations when demand picks up again.

“Unlike some competitors, we want to avoid empty flights at all costs. We will only take off when a new start makes sense for Austrian Airlines and when the ease of travel restrictions makes this possible”, comments Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Andreas Otto on the plans of the red-white-red airline.

Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate based in Nebraska, had held sizeable positions in the airlines.

According to the company's filings, it had an 11% stake in Delta Air Lines, 10% of American Airlines Co, 10% of Southwest Airlines Co and 9% of United Airlines at the end of 2019.

"We will not fund a company... where we think that it is going to chew up money in the future."

I accept this special Queen is a force for good.
But things change and it will not always be so.

A bad monarch could be disruptive and difficult to get rid of.

Everybody should retire at 70 if you go by the lockdown recommendation. and i believe this is right as the state pension will sooner or later start at 70.Trump has definitely lost his marbles. As to the Queen, she should do the decent thing and pass it to Charles but then he is also past 70.

Wat - I agree - The Queen is non-political figure head of the UK, highly respected around the world and provides the UK with stability especially in times of difficulty and crises whereas the President is highly political and does the bidding for the people who have paid to get him in office.

The President of the USA is either Red or Blue whereas as the Queen is all colours.

The Queen Unites whereas the President of the United States Divides. Even the Scots want to keep the Queen.

It was in the news today with Buffett speaking on the topic.

Warren looking a bit fragile I thought.
He must be close to 90and has serious underlying health conditions.

The American election is worrying.
We need to get that clown Trump out of the White House.
But Biden will be a president in his 80's.

Ridiculous for such a high pressure job, there should be an age limit.

And that goes for our head of state, the Queen.

She should have a retirement age, there seems to be no impeachment procedure for removal of our monarch even if they go crazy.

We do not know when Buffet sold out of his airline stocks. All we do know is the date when he initially trimmed his position to under 10% as unlike the UK which is at 3% in the USA it's at 10% when a position has to be notified.

I can now see what Buffet was doing, trim to below 10%, then wait for the bounce and with out anybody else really noticing or knowing to sell out of his airline stocks completely which he could of done any time over the past 3 weeks or so.

1973 was the last time I flew (Cyprus and back). Been happily holidaying in the UK for 47 years since. Not the least bit bored in doing so. But all these travellers now planning to not fly means that some of my favourite quiet places will be less quiet ;-/

Going on ones 2 week summer holiday this year.

Arrive at airport with mask on having to keep it on for the entire time in the airport and during the flight.

No refreshments can be served during the flight as will mean removing ones mask.

Arrival at ones summer sun destination to immediately be put into 14 days quarantine and not allowed out of ones hotel.

Returning to home to the UK, being put into another 14 day quarantine.

Ladies and Gentlemen I hope you enjoy your Summer holidays abroad this year being quarantined in your hotel, no swimming pool, no beach and no restaurants.

In France, health minister Olivier Veran said people travelling into the country, including French citizens returning home, will be placed in a 14-day quarantine as part of new extended proposals to limit the spread of the new coronavirus.

The Government is "actively looking" at holding people who arrive from abroad in quarantine to help control the spread of coronavirus, Grant Shapps has said.

The Transport Minister told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show that it is important that the social distancing "sacrifices" made by Brits "are matched by anybody who comes to this country."

Buffett will use his cash pile to get incredible deals with distressed companies.
Just as 2008.
He made a killing providing cash at high coupon convertible to shares at depressed prices.

Cash is king for a while.

Interesting that he has dumped the whole of his airline holdings, almost certainly at huge loss.

As O'Leary of Ryan Air said recently, how can a free market privately owned airline compete with loss making, part nationalised flag carriers?
