The FT

"One shareholder told the FT this week: “We are unhappy at the capital allocation framework the company has used to determine that a rights issue of such size and discount was optimum for shareholders versus the other options available to them.”

Can't disagree about the Tory loonies Porsche. You can add BoJo to that statement.

11.2 bil net debt, plus huge pension liabilities. i think theres a very real chance bond holders could take over IAG, wipe out the shareholders, they cant do another capital raise they have already added 50 pc plus more shares...long haul aint coming back in time to save them and jet fuel prices going nuclear.

Ftse 100 today exactly the same price as dec 30th 1999, S&P 3xd in that time. Pitiful, what an epic fail brexit and the tory loonies since 2010 have been for uk plc, well at least whoever voted for them can look forward to the highest tax rates in 70 years from April ‘22. Enjoy.

Surely got to have a rights issue, deeply discounted if they do.

Any moment now, NY Boy will be popping in to say glibly, 'bought another £10k of shares, tuck these away, blah blah blah'.

More cash calls look inevitable. The conversation is slowly turning here in the UK to an 'acceptable' death rate for covid of 100 day. I think that eventually, it might be much lower, but other countries are not as far along on the vax versus disease journey as the UK, and I think it will take time for the world to come to terms with greater mortality as a norm. It will also cause everyone to think much harder about getting into a little aluminium tube for a few hours to fly somewhere with a few sneezing, snorting, people and children with sticky hands, and seats and trays that have had a two-second wipe (if that) from an underpaid foreigner working against the clock. Things have changed permanently.

Profits are going to much much harder to achieve. The road to financial recovery for IAG will be long and expensive for shareholders. I anticipate mass flight from this share and a share price south of 80p soon. In the meantime, momentary good news could cause a small spike - that will be the moment to short.

BA don't seem to have a clue how to run a low cost airline, as BA they don't even know how to compete with the low cost carries.

It is a good idea to start low cost airline It is best way to use own aircraft and getting new destination plus people are able to change for international flight which may be delivered extra income By the time it will start covid-19 was less problem Good luck

So, IAG say they are going to start a new low cost at LGW .

What are the views here.
Do people think a new start up is a good idea, or would buying an sensitising low cost carrier be a better option ?

or none of the above ?

v2 - Because as BA have said many times they have permanently lost between 20% and 40% of their business traffic and it is these passengers that make the vast majority of the money for BA.

I think it's odds on another rights issue. Would have to be at a massive discount to get it away.

Vulcan,

The winter period is a weak quarter historically and more so because of Covid restrictions. Plus we have the cost of a new low cost airline setup which was not on the books 2 weeks ago.

This year will be another big loss making year

Looks like another massive dilution of shares coming.

Even if BA manage to make the same profit in the future as they did pre-covid due to the massive number of extra shares in issue will mean Earnings per Share will be only around 1/3rd of pre-covid times.

I just had a weeks holiday in Majorca flying BA LHR-PMI. Aircraft was 80% full on the way out and 60% full on the way back... so not great. But better than I thought it would be, and it'll get better. Perhaps not a big money making route but there were plenty of holiday makers on those 2 sectors as you'd imagine...
