12/8/2005 15:52 | Can anyone explain the current weakness to me, I've been away for a couple of weeks, with the recent postings suggesting 11 or 12% growth for the sector and suggestions of 400p fair value if this is the case with interims announced in a week's time, I would have thought the shares would be enjoying a tad more support than this. Tempted to buy more at these levels for the results. | whipround

05/8/2005 15:09 | nse (a US peer) reported yesterday: New Skies Reports Strong Second Quarter 2005 Performance Second Quarter Revenues up 16 Percent to $59.7 Million, Adjusted EBITDA Increased 31 Percent to $38.6 Million HAMILTON, Bermuda, Aug 04, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- New Skies Satellites Holdings Ltd. ("New Skies") [NSE] , the global satellite communications company, today reported financial results for the three- and six-month periods ended June 30, 2005. Revenues for the quarter were $59.7 million, up 16 percent over the same period in the prior year, net loss was $13.2 million and Adjusted EBITDA(a) was $38.6 million, up 31 percent over the same period in the prior year. Commenting on the results, New Skies CEO, Dan Goldberg, said: "New Skies had an exceptionally busy and productive second quarter. With respect to our financial performance, I am pleased to report that we increased revenues 16 percent relative to the same period last year, primarily a reflection of the fact that we sold a significant amount of capacity over the last twelve months. Indeed, the utilization of our state-of-the-art satellite fleet grew from 52 percent to 61 percent in that period. In the last quarter we secured a number of important commercial opportunities for data and IP services in Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Asia; video services in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Latin America; and government services around the world. 05/8/2005 12:39 | "Today we have entered a new phase ... Chinese entities are now actively working in the development of the Galileo System. These three contracts are just the first; we intend to sign others in the near future," Rainer Grohe, executive director of the Galileo Joint Undertaking, was quoted by Dow Jones Newswires as saying. China in September 2003 agreed to invest 200 million euros (now US$242 million) in Galileo, of which a total of 70 million euros has been earmarked for the development of tailor-made applications. Galileo, a 30-satellite system, is due to go into service in 2008. The planned satellite network is designed to end Europe's reliance on GPS because the military-run system gives no guarantee to maintain an uninterrupted service. Galileo will be able to detect the exact positioning of users to within about 1m. | andrbea

02/8/2005 13:20 | o/t Having seen QinetiQ's name mentioned a few times in relation to Inmarsat satellites, I had a look at who they are and what they do. Firstly in the specific area of communication via satellites: Then at what else they do (an absolutely amazing range of activities): It was today's BBC News item regarding high-altitude surveillance that reminded me to go look: Hardly any of it has any bearing on ISAT. But a fascinating outfit. Majority owned by the UK taxpayer (via MoD). mtg Edit: I see there is an existing QNET discussion thread at See posts 155 (24 July) onwards for discussion of QNET's imminent controversial stockmarket floatation. | m.t.glass

01/8/2005 14:46 | yet more broker coverage (Cazenove via Bloomberg) We are initiating coverage of Inmarsat with an IN-LINE recommendation following a 30% rise in the share price since its IPO at 245p on 17 June. Our fair value for Inmarsat's core business has increased by 10% to 291p, following the strengthening of the US$ to $1.75 from $1.85 in our IPO research. This fair value was derived from management's base case forecast of 6% revenue growth between 2005-2010. It is worth also highlighting that management's stretch revenue forecast indicated revenue growth of 11% over this period, which would imply a valuation of 410p, using the same DCF methodology. | martingb
