28/10/2005 16:48 | Bulls v Bears Volatility! mkt at 5200! Market is not volatile, institutions want all IPO's at the moment at bargain prices to ensure success and make windfall profits after flotation. Just look at Inmarsat, clearly underpriced at issue to keep bankers sweet. Laziness on the part of institutions. Price for inmarsat has only come back beacuse of the flood of shares on offer after backers bailed out. | whipround

27/10/2005 11:15 | R-BGAN terminals in Arabian desert to keep world in touch with cross-country motor rally 26-10-2005 - A base camp built among sand dunes deep in the Arabian desert will be the mobile communications centre for this year's UAE Desert Challenge - with mobile satellite links provided by Inmarsat. This is the fourth year Inmarsat has sponsored the international cross-country rally, which takes place from 9 to 14 November. The event sees a powerful line-up of cars, motorcycles and trucks tackling some of the most demanding and spectacular desert terrain in the Middle East before the survivors reach the finish line at Dubai International Marine Club. Inmarsat is providing three R-BGAN terminals and one GAN terminal - which will be set up at the base camp. The Inmarsat R-BGANs will enable the organizers to send results speedily through to its headquarters, while the journalists covering the event will use the terminals to file copy and send pictures to their newsdesks around the world. The GAN terminal will be used for voice and fax communications. The desert base - called the 'Bivouac' - is this year located at a new site on the Moreeb Hill. The site includes a 60 degree slipface on a sand dune that will be used as a hill climb in the rally. Inmarsat's regional director for Middle East and North Africa, Samer Halawi, said: "The Bivouac is in the middle of nowhere. Mobiles barely work there. The Inmarsat equipment demonstrates how crucial mobile satellite communications are in remote areas." www.uaedesertchallen BackPrivacy| Terms & ConditionsThis site is best viewed with Internet Explorer 6. 26/10/2005 13:56 | I think somebody, probably Andrbea has already pre-empted this statement. 26th October 2005 - Inmarsat, the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, has announced that it is preparing to launch its second Inmarsat-4 (I-4) satellite, the F2, on 4th November 2005. The satellite has successfully departed Home Port in Long Beach, California, aboard the Sea Launch platform, Odyssey. The departure followed the successful integration of the satellite's payload unit with the Zenit-3SL rocket. The satellite is scheduled for launch between 2.20pm and 2.50pm GMT on Friday 4th November 2005. A live webcast of the launch can be accessed at www.inmarsat.com. | whipround

GO Market Sentiment Bearish For Eutelsat IPO Monday, October 24, 2005 5:22:50 AM ET Dow Jones Newswires 0910 GMT [Dow Jones] Eutelsat (1022123.FR) IPO goes unconditional on October 25 with 21.5M shares to be offered at between EUR15.25 and EUR17.75, Cantor Index says. Group reaches 120M homes in Europe and has Deutsche Telekom (DT), France Telecom (FTE) and RTL (RTL.BT) amongst it's main customers, so "the long term future seems guaranteed." However, market sentiment is not brilliant at the moment, with investor's losing their appetite for risk over the past few days," Cantor adds. (AST) | whipround

24/10/2005 10:48 | Satellites Bring Beamed Broadband By Glenn Fleishman Inmarsat is about to launch the second of its high-bandwidth, beamforming satellites: The fourth-generation of satellites doesn't cover huge areas by default. Instead, they can beam 492 Kbps signals to areas that range from the size of a city to the size of a small region. Portable phones and data devices should work more simply and be much smaller than previous planned or deployed fast satellite networks. Tenzing's descendent firm OnAir will make use of the "I-4" network to bring speeds at multiples of 492 Kbps to in-flight aircraft. Thousands of aircraft already have Inmarsat equipment on board; the upgrade is fairly inexpensive and quick to put in a fourth-generation receiver. The new system could also fuel rural broadband by providing superior bidirectional speeds at a lower cost per user. " | andrbea

21/10/2005 14:10 | Telecom giant Inmarsat is weeks away from launching the second in a series of two super-satellites -- designed to be among the most powerful commercial communications spacecraft in orbit -- that will beam broadband data and voice services to almost any location on the planet. The I-4 satellites will serve as switchboards in the sky for Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network, or BGAN, service, scheduled for rollout in 2006. Instead of cruising for a Starbucks, BGAN subscribers can hit the road with a portable terminal as small as their laptop computer and surf the web -- or connect with the office LAN -- at broadband speeds of up to 492 Kbps. "The network will cover 88 percent of the globe's landmass," said Chris McLaughlin, vice president of corporate communications for Inmarsat in London. | andrbea
