01/8/2005 11:26 | target now stated: Lehman Initiates Inmarsat At Overweight Monday, August 01, 2005 3:22:02 AM ET Dow Jones Newswires 0710 GMT [Dow Jones] Lehman Brothers initiates Inmarsat (ISAT.LN) with an overweight rating and price target of 365p. "In our view, Inmarsat is uniquely positioned within an attractive industry," the bank says. Expects launch of mobile broadband satellite services to lead to acceleration in revenue growth, and combined with a largely fixed cost base and capex peaking in 2005, result in even greater EBITDA and FCF growth. Shares +0.6% at 327.25p. (SMT) Meanwhile.... Nera: Expectations to Broadband Satellite in Russia Backed Up by Large Terminal Order OSLO, Norway and MOSCOW, Aug. 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The MVS Group has ordered 1,000 broadband satellite terminals for Inmarsat's new BGAN service, with a significant proportion of the terminals going to Russia. The order was placed with Nera SatCom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nera (Other OTC:NERAF). The contract between the MVS Group and Nera represents the first order of terminals for Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service into Russia. Scheduled for availability in the fourth quarter, BGAN will become the first mobile satellite communications service providing broadband access to voice and data simultaneously. "We see a large market potential for the world's first mobile broadband satellite communications service in Russia," comments Mr. Peter Liberi, Vice President of MVS Group. He continues, "The extremely compact design of Nera's terminal contributes to making BGAN a very compelling proposition." Half the size of a laptop computer and weighing less than 1 kg, the Nera WorldPro 1000 is the smallest broadband satellite communications terminal on the market. Designed specifially to be easy to carry and easy to use, the terminal is targeted at users in the military, aid and media sectors who need instant access to broadband communications in areas with poor terrestrial communications infrastructure. The Nera WorldPro 1000 will enable customers of the MVS Group to connect to the BGAN service at speeds of up to 384 kbps from 85% of the world's land mass. The MVS Group's order is yet another significant contract for the Nera WorldPro 1000, which was launched only two months ago. "The strong demand for Nera's terminal several months before the launch of the BGAN service is very encouraging," observes Mr. Stig-Are Mogstad, President of Nera SatCom. The 1,000 units will be delivered together with Nera's new ISDN handset, which enables users to take advantage of BGAN's enhanced voice codec and also to configure the terminal directly from the handset, as well as send text messages (SMS) over the BGAN service. Important for the target segments of the MVS Group, the handset will provide Russian language support. A large proportion of the order is already committed to the Russian market. The remaining terminals will be delivered through the MVS global distribution network and the MVS Group's online shop for easy order and worldwide distribution. Delivery is planned to start in November this year. | m.t.glass

25/7/2005 15:02 | Satellites widen safety net By Brendan Gallagher 25 July 2005 Janes Airport Review With the news of Inmarsat's last step on the road to commercialisation still fresh, delegates to June's Aeronautical Conference in Montreal heard that the company remains committed to providing the air traffic communications services currently carried by its satellites to the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Recent infrastructure developments include the launch of the first of the new Inmarsat-4 satellites in March 2005 and the transition of Indian Ocean region services to it at the end of May 2005. The other two Inmarsat-4 are due to be launched between now and the end of 2006. They are designed to support today's Inmarsat Classic voice and low-rate data services - the Swift64, a 64 kbit/sec data service, and the 432 kbit/sec SwiftBroadband, scheduled for introduction by the end of 2006. SwiftBroadband's potential as a bearer for safety services is the subject of the NexSAT study launched by Eurocontrol in conjunction with the FAA and ICAO early in 2004. British technology company QinetiQ, supported by Inmarsat, SITA, Thales Avionics in the UK and EADS Astrium, was contracted to carry out the study in the third quarter of 2004. The work, due to be delivered in 2006, is intended to help Eurocontrol and the FAA understand the technical and cost implications of using SwiftBroadband for air traffic. "We're just beginning to recognise the potential of the Inmarsat-4s for safety services," says conference delegate Jim Nagle, chief of the Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) section in ICAO's Air Navigation Bureau. 250 of 972 words [End of non-subscriber extract.] | m.t.glass
22/7/2005 10:45 | further to post 104 more info about the galileo project: "A further 1 billion has been set aside to spend on developing the "eye in the sky" between 2007 and 2010. The rest of the cash will be put forward by a consortium of private companies including Inmarsat, the satellite group. Their funding is in place and ready once the contract is signed within the next 12 months. Many of the consumer benefits will be essentially free. The project founders claim that they will claw back the huge cost of the project by charging companies and government departments for services. The European Union maintains that Galileo has "unquestionable economic viability" and suggests that the market for its services could be worth more than 200 billion by 2020. This assumption is based on a report the EU commissioned from PricewaterhouseCoope The final system should be fully functional by 2009/10." | ![]() andrbea
