New shorter appears over the declaration threshold. Portsea at 0.64%. Can't help but think that their risk/reward ratio is somewhat skewed against them. Certainly shows that a lot of investors are buying into the results.

Can't see much joy for the remaining shorters, especially Thunderbird who seem to have their timings completely wrong.

undervaluedassets - "Aviation is the future as evidenced by the numbers." Yes, I've been saying so most of last year. There's more growth to come from this division. That's one reason why Echostar are keen to get their hands on ISAT. Don't know what share price the big boys will accept but needs to be comfortably above what it is now.

LightSquared (was ligado) reached a cooperation agreement in 2007 with Inmarsat, a British satellite telecommunications company, that rearranged the L-Band spectrum so the company could use a larger, contiguous stretch of spectrum. However ligado keeps doing the hokey cokey with bankruptcy, and the regulators, who think their network will mess up GPS systems...Sometimes inmarsat get cash, sometimes not, and echostar are eyeing up inmarsat for the spectrum rights (we believe) to block them.

Taken from the accounts. Revenue and EBITDA from Ligado increased by $1.9m and $3.8m respectively in 2018, and increased by $0.3m and $1.0m respectively in Q4 2018, in line with our co-operation agreement with Ligado. This agreement stipulates that payments from Ligado to Inmarsat will pause in 2019 (unless Ligado obtains its FCC license during 2019, in which event payments will resume thereafter) and then resume from the beginning of 2020 at c. $136m per annum, growing thereafter at 3% compound over the next 89 years. Any payments not made in 2019 (up to $132.3m in aggregate), together with prior payments deferred between 2016 and 2018 (approximately $35m in aggregate) will become due for payment by Ligado with interest from their original date of payment no later than 30 June 2021. Ligado continues in its efforts to obtain its licence from the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC"), with the timing and consequent impact on Inmarsat of any such decision remaining uncertain. Can anyone tell me what the story is here? Thanks in advance R2

No horrors in the results - marginally beaten EBITDA forecasts and aviation is impressive. A bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

Under, not necessarily, once the last approach was dropped, the shares fell substantially below ISAT's purported own value. Echostar may make the same offer. HBR

Shares in British satellite group Inmarsat surged after reports said a US rival has lined it up as a takeover target. US media reports said Echostar was expected to renew its interest in the company ‘very soon’ – or at least within the next six months. Echostar dropped a £2.4billion takeover approach for the London-headquartered firm last July after failing to tempt it into talks. Inmarsat shares jumped by as much as 10 per cent, before paring some gains and closing up 6 per cent, or 22.7p, at 399.8p.Shares in British satellite group Inmarsat surged after reports said a US rival has lined it up as a takeover target. Market won't be impressed by a bid from them now, will they? And a share offer just got more expensive, they're skint as well aren't they, too much debt?

Chatter on FT Aplhaville about ISAT: 11:46 am Inmarsat PLC (ISAT:LSE): Last: 395.80, up 7.4 (+1.91%), High: 396.20, Low: 389.60, Volume: 380.77k BE - I'm guessing the request is on the back of the Jefferies note from a day or two ago that talks about Ligado optionality. BE - Ligado being Lightsquared as was. Bonds have rallied rather sharply over the past fortnight, suggesting people in Washington might have an inkling that news is on the way regarding its interference problems. 11:48 am BE - We're waiting for a letter from NTIA Director David Redl on whether the network's going to be nixed or not. BE - And here's where Jefferies goes 7 dimensional chess .... "We suspect an investor(s) has been advised by a retained lawyer that the Redl letter could be imminent, and in an act of regulatory pragmatism over principle, that letter will recommend the FCC accept the Ligado proposal. In this seemingly interminable endgame, we might finally reach a decisive conclusion. A pro-Ligado stance would be very positive for Inmarsat, but there is a bigger game afoot now." 11:50 am "We feel more certain now of EchoStar's vision that the MSS spectrum bands are "strategic" to future integrated cellular / terrestrial IoT networks. We therefore think its interest in Inmarsat remains - and in the short period of time since it walked away, its negotiating leverage with the Inmarsat Board has improved dramatically: Inmarsat's shares have drifted down on the back of a fresh short thesis around Maritime consensus downgrades. In the event of a Redl letter, Inmarsat may want to keep taking the Ligado cash, but it may feel coerced into taking Ligado equity." BE - For more on the angling between EchoStar/Dish and the rest of the networks to block each other, see every other session last year .
