22/10/2024 23:26 | marktime1231 22 Oct '24 - 23:21 - 8881 of 8882 >No-one really needs a £1M pension pot, or a £1M ISA making money from money,<<br /> No one ? I can think of good examples straight away. You think its a lot of money ? The average house price in London is about £691k. Lets say a couple married 20 years suddenly get divorced. Wife takes the house and husband has to buy a place to live and support both his wife and himself.... £1m pension pot or ISA leaves him having to work until he dies... or he rents etc. In your scenario those who have worked and saved all their lives already paid tax on everything they own should pay even more tax just because they still have it. In order to pay the "benefits" for those that decided to do the opposite. Maybe pensioners don't deserve to be comfortable ? Perhaps make everyone work until they die ? Except for those poor unfortunates who choose benefits ? | fenners66

22/10/2024 22:21 | A late sector rally as Philip Morris reports it is a growth stock, not just bottom line improvement from price increases but volumes up slightly. Might be a strong day tomorrow. Without wishing to get sidetracked in to fiscal debates, it would not be susprising if the new government targetted idle wealth. Especially wealth hidden or sheltered from the tax man. No-one really needs a £1M pension pot, or a £1M ISA making money from money, while the tax burden on workers is getting heavier and benefits are being cut. Those targets are liquid if not so visible, but a simple mechanism for capping an ISA and taxing excess is not obvious. Trying to surtax property wealth which is visible but fixed is even more troublesome, until there is a transaction. But I expect all forms of wealth to face increased taxation during this parliament if not in the first budget, and the withdrawl of generous reliefs. Even the means testing of the state pension might appear on the horizon. If tobacco companies are reporting a surge in profits while inflating prices there's bound to be heavier duty, and surely tax on next-gen must be on the way. Might the bill to criminalise smoking be delayed though? | marktime1231

22/10/2024 17:27 | I see BATS is trying hard at that 2632 price. But to me , its too close to a phase that broke down recently. Cant see the value there at all for the mo | putinaire
22/10/2024 17:03 | Its already done the hard work. Bit of small percentage consolidation and boom again. Doubt it even does the 7 | putinaire
22/10/2024 17:01 | Putinaire - 20 Oct 2024 - 11:18:57 - 8868 of 8877 Imperial Brands PLC (formerly Imperial Tobacco) - IMB IMB is no probs. It can even afford a 7% pull and be extremely good value to funds. No reason not to see another 100+ percent over the coming 1-4 Qtrs i reckon | putinaire
22/10/2024 16:49 | #Monty, a great milestone there, well done, can I ask what year you started..? PEP/Tessa and before the 1999 ISA from the then chancellor GB..? | laurence llewelyn binliner
22/10/2024 12:30 | Talk of limit on ISAs that would kill me being one of the 4000 ISA millionaires. | montyhedge
22/10/2024 11:04 | If we the retail investors are wary - what of the professionals ? Stupid labour playing politics talking down the economy to try and score points off the tories, instead of considering the real world implications, together with whatever damage they actually do post budget. | fenners66
22/10/2024 10:23 | That's the concern monty, next week or next year?? I have been adding to my SIPP recently to lock in the tax relief but am holding the money back for now in cash related products. Once we all know for sure what is going to happen and when I can then deploy it here and in others. Good luck all 👍🏻 | tuftymatt
22/10/2024 10:12 | Reeves will start a market sell off, if capital gains to high. But surely tax won't come in until new tax year, could she apply from budget day ? | montyhedge

20/10/2024 10:23 | Some elsewhere have done a really deep entity/sector analysis of IMB of today v its 2016 high. Very good | putinaire
20/10/2024 10:18 | IMB is no probs. It can even afford a 7% pull and be extremely good value to funds. No reason not to see another 100+ percent over the coming 1-4 Qtrs i reckon | putinaire
20/10/2024 10:15 | Anyway point is, sub price on chart, they will all have to come here lol | putinaire
20/10/2024 10:14 | Im not really one for patterns, but those whom are may have spotted in BATS - a key zone H&S kill coming a few days ago. Could get nasty if none of the above occurs this week | putinaire
20/10/2024 10:11 | Putinaire - 14 Oct 2024 - 09:11:28 - 8853 of 8865 Imperial Brands PLC (formerly Imperial Tobacco) - IMB I wouldnt add BATS. it may look like better value to the S but it isnt ....... | putinaire
20/10/2024 10:09 | Any of you in BATS? I think you can translate all fundamentals to a big price shown. No surprise it was the open and close area as it is standard to hit such prices on an update etc etc Big week coming for it next week. Shorters will be monitoring that with intent. They really need some decent news flow in the week or that price crunching would be bad It is the sort of price you may get a director buy, broker rating or some news RNS. That needs to come before price taken | putinaire
18/10/2024 15:23 | Philip Morris, also involved in the Canadian litigation is very slightly up on the day and on the last week. | sumday
18/10/2024 15:18 | So BAT in Canada (a subsidiary previously called Imperial Tobacco but IMB has no residual exposure that I can find) is on the hook for about £6B which it says it will settle from cash reserves and future cash flow. News which does not seem to have been fully priced in, off about £1 making it the FTSEs worst performer. I wonder how much BAT had set aside in provisions, how much it has reserved in cash and how long it will take future cash flow from Canadian operations to settle the award. BAT has been pledging all available cash to buybacks to try and keep up with IMB, including proceeds from disposals. Under pressure from too many directions unless it can find more dosh. I wonder what is the extent and status of similar litigation around the world, all big tobacco must be exposed. A sobering prospect we should not ignore even while IMB seems to be on the up and up. | marktime1231
18/10/2024 11:49 | well im one of them...didnt see this coming for BATS | nemesis6
18/10/2024 10:27 | great strength v BATS today. If that doesnt lead the way for a BATS investor transfer, not much will Reckon the ISA's and SIPP's will start seeing the switches soon | putinaire
17/10/2024 20:27 | The positive price action this year has enabled me to reduce my holding to a more manageable 9k. Taking the capital growth and increasing yield into consideration, I'm happy to hold going forward. spud | spud |
