04/1/2003 21:27 | Thanks for (almost) all the replies. I will follow them up tomorrow. Jonc Your advisor was referring to the "prior disclosure" rule, that applies to all patents. Basically, patenting is a nightmare, which is why one should get a big corp to support the process, hence this thread. BTG (British Technology group)can be good, but deal more with tech than mechanical inventions. I would be grateful for any info you can dig up from your office. Indalo Ref. your suggestion of necessarily patenting the product BEFORE showing it to a major corp - it only goes to show how little you know about the long and expensive process of patent registration. The rest of your response is naive, lazy and obvious. And what does it say about you that you think that it is laughable that someone could come up with an good original idea? LOL | seela
04/1/2003 21:19 | Seela I may be able to offer some advice, e-mail me if you think I might be able to help timbo03@timbo03.worl I'm a serial "inventor" working for a multinational, they look after me and pay me well, but no royalties coming my way (so far), I'm not entirely happy with the situation | timbo003
04/1/2003 21:02 | He probably makes more money from his lecture and interviews. Maybe Seela can benefit from Bayliss's experience. | adriand
04/1/2003 20:53 | Fat lot of good that did him then!! Bayliss has had endless disputes with his market vehicle. Apparantly there is a big dispute about what he actually invented and what the vehicle did and brought to market. | scripophilist
04/1/2003 20:53 | Don't mean to be negative, go for it, Nobody ever went forward by standing still!! | scripophilist
04/1/2003 20:50 | This could also be of interest. | adriand
04/1/2003 20:45 | Try this site. Trevor Bayliss of the Clockwork Radio fame and the private inventor. Evidently he has setup a foundation. | adriand
04/1/2003 20:40 | Seela What idea do you have? post all the details here please :-) Oh by the way, i hope its not for another "ADVFN Competitor" :) And i hope its got nothing to do with "steam" otherwise someone will be saying its a 100 bagger by February! d. | dailos
04/1/2003 20:26 | Patent coverage is a mare and very expensive and ultimately does not completely protect you. I have seen several people get eaten by large anti competitive organisations. However if you have a great idea then is worth pursuing only how, raise some money from investors and then at least you won't be spending a fortune of your own money and with luck (good negociation) you should still be able to retain control. I recently went through the mill with a friend of mine would has patented technology worldwide and is now selling it. That fact alone allowed him to raise funding. Gausie is spot on is his appraisal, I have seen many ideas nicked on the basis that they are "Different" but only in legal terms. | scripophilist
04/1/2003 19:54 | A start - before incurring any costs - as per patent lawyer etc. - is to make an appointment with your local Business Link/Small Business Service. This is a Government backed body and so will offer initial advice on process etc. You should ensure that (even with the BL/SBS) you and the adviser sign a confidentiality agreement - they will probably take you through that anyway. BL/SBS vary across the country BUT on the whole, they can start you off on the process. There used to be Innovation/Technolog Don't start paying out before you have to. Patent Lawyers, Patent Advisers etc. are usually excellent - but they cost a lot of money - so exploit the free/Govt. sponsored lot as fully as you can before you start the costs running. mg The Business Link general site is at Good Luck !! | mg
04/1/2003 18:47 | Seela, A story I heard about 25 years ago. A man with an idea went along to Bryant and May (sp?) the match manufacturers. All he wanted was for them to sign an agreement that stated that they would pay him £60,000 if they used his idea. As there didn't appear to be any down side they signed the agreement. Upon receiving the signed agreement the man revealed his idea. It was "only put sand paper on one side of the box". He got his 60K. It is probably a fictional story, but I like it. Mike. | alkrington
04/1/2003 18:18 | seela You need to get patent in place and get lawyers to draw up an NDA that includes a term that says something along the lines of 'any improvements that the second party to the agreement comes up with belong to the first party and are also covered by the NDA' What part of the country are you in? My patent lawyer is in Cambridge - and he's excellent. Gausie | gausie
04/1/2003 18:08 | Have a look at Ticker is GAI , I read somewhere that they are soon to float 3 of their investments in 2003. G | ginto
04/1/2003 18:05 | Ah indalo seems to confirm that. | jonc
04/1/2003 18:04 | I went to a seminar on this a couple of years ago. One point sticks in my mind. The lecturer seemed to say that under no circumstances should you communicate anything about your new idea until you have applied for a patent. Whether this is correct or they were trying to drum up business I don't know. The notes are at the office so I cannot refer to them today. JC | jonc
04/1/2003 18:02 | Do a web search - "Inventions" Yes, there is an organistaion...but I can't remember the name. You basically need to patent your idea and get a lawyer to write up a confidentiality agreement which you make the manufacturer/corpora best of luck | indalo
04/1/2003 17:58 | If you had a brilliant idea for a product (whether potentially patentable, or not), or an idea for a branding concept, .... and you wanted to get a major corporation to develop it.... what would be the best way to approach them to ensure that they did not nick your idea? Are there any (possibly Government-sponsored I remember hearing years ago about a body that helped aspiring inventors for free (a reputable oprganisation - not one of the many vanity-publishing scams advertised in the press). Does anyone know the name of the organisation I am thinking of? Or any similar organisation? Cheers S | seela
22/4/2002 19:29 | Them were the days............ *sighs*........... | logica2me
14/8/2001 08:49 | Jon, one minor tweak for L2 - can you adjust the colours of the changes on the MM prices - black on blue is very hard to read - how about blue on black :-) No, but seriously.... how about either white on blue/red or blue/red on white for the up/down figures? | zzaxx99
13/8/2001 19:45 | JBM Sounds superb. These types of features are going to make ADVFN a formidable tool for identifying mkt opps. I'm looking forward to it all. | byrdsong
13/8/2001 07:32 | My wishlist entry - take the Exact Futures L2 features, make them streaming, and you will have something infinitely better than having to keep clicking backwards and forwards between web pages | zzaxx99
12/8/2001 23:13 | JBM - Sounds really good - can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!! | qwento
12/8/2001 23:02 | Hi all, First step will be to bring out a basic level 2 screen. We'll be demoing a version hopefully this coming week. We've integrated it with the trades page, plus we've been working on the layout of the SEAQ screen. After that, I totally agree.. there's a lot more work to do on toplists - and "Level 2 toplists" has been on my own personal to-do list for a while now. Also, I think that bringing many of the existing ADVFN features on to single screens may prove useful. I'm looking forward to getting the basic features sorted out so we can do some exciting things with streaming. Jon | jbm
12/8/2001 22:30 | ByrdSong - in full agreement with your inital posting on the thread. If you could see a list of companies with significant order imbalances - GREAT !!! Failing that a connection between your portfolio and Level 2 so that selected Level 2 information was shown on the portfolio would be more than handy ! | qwento |
