Vale sees nickel market in 50,000 tonne deficit in 2016; prices will recover slowly

Brazilian diversified miner Vale expects the nickel market to register a deficit of 50,000 tonnes in 2016, but sees prices recovering gradually given the high levels of exchange-bonded inventories.

"This will be the first year of deficit [for nickel] after five years of small surpluses," Vale investor relations and controllership director Rogério Nogueira said on Thursday June 16. Vale, the world’s largest nickel producer, expects global supply to decline by 5% in 2016, to 1.82 million tonnes, mainly on lower...

The remaining allotment of Initial Consideration Shares will be made in accordance with the terms of the Asset Purchase Agreement as and when the transfer from Xstrata to a subsidiary of the Company of the relevant GAP licences is registered by the DNPM.
Raymund I can only assume that only some of the licence areas have been regestered with the DNPM?

Twigs3, well spotted! However, I am at a loss as to how the figure of $660,000 was arrived at leaving just the balance to be settled (presumably at prevailing share price) on registration. Although I was at the meeting I do not recall any discussion on this.

Twigs3, excellent, because I had originally understood that Registration was expected late H2. I am sure that JM has been sitting on PFS waiting for the right time for it to be hatched! I would not be surprised to see 5p on a good low cost PFS conclusion putting HZM well in the money for current Ni price.

Hi raymund, yes I think your right reference glencore, I think they will also try and get PFS out before registration so hopfully their will be even less dilution, all looking very good and very happy with the job they are doing.

Thanks for both links, all looking good for updated PFS before long. Pleased that I added as much as I could before latest advance. Regarding Glencore transaction, I believe that registration of concession is yet to be confirmed (see p5 of Presentation); if I am correct, this means that move up in share price will help reduce dilution we suffer when $2m is paid in shares.

"Better Chinese data and ongoing central bank stimulus in Europe are all ingredients for healthy metals," Michael Turek, the head of base metals at BGC Partners Inc. in New York, said in an e-mail.Nickel for delivery in three months advanced 4.4 percent to settle at $8,960 a metric ton at 5:51 p.m. on the London Metal Exchange, swinging to a 1.6 percent gain this year from a 2.7 percent loss as of Tuesday. The data from China suggests the country imported "relatively large quantities" of commodities last month, according to a research report from Commerzbank AG. The nation is the world's biggest user of raw materials and evidence of slowing demand sent prices tumbling last year.
