10/10/2018 11:48 | Doh!! MGM already have a GAN licence. My bad | mip55
10/10/2018 11:38 | Absolutely Woodhawk, just trying to stifle any speculation that real money sports betting is going to happen in CA anytime soon. I think the JV might well be investigating simulated gaming with a view to having a system in place for such time the legislature decide to proceed. Of course then they would require a GAN licence to link simulated rewards to real money! Lol | mip55
10/10/2018 11:29 | mip55, You're right, it isn't imminent; but in this game to pays to anticipate - by the time the actuality arrives most of the profits have already been made by the better informed. | woodhawk
10/10/2018 11:24 | 10 years this has taken so far! | hubshank
10/10/2018 11:12 | Gambling legislation in California won't happen in 2018 or 2019.Various parties have been pushing for the legalization of sports betting in the state ever since the Supreme Court decision. A group called Californians for Sports Betting has submitted paperwork to the office of the attorney general to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would allow legalization of sports betting. If successful, the question would be on the ballot for the 2020 election.Don't hold your breath I'm afraid | mip55
10/10/2018 09:38 | Can give some more details about this plan . What level the shares have to hit etc etc ?? | blackrocktrader
10/10/2018 09:18 | One thing is for certain as a result of this fall in the SP, the directors won't be benefitting from the 2017 LTIP! | mylands
10/10/2018 08:51 | If UAIC are buying into a JV, it suggests they know something we don't. Somewhere over last few days I read they have influence over federal gambling laws. Has anyone looked to see when the next hearing is? | hubshank
09/10/2018 20:44 | GVC and MGM Resorts have made an early play for the Californian sports betting market by signing up to a partnership with the United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC). Under the terms of the partnership, MGM-GVC – which announced a $200m (£153m/€ MGM and GVC said that UAIC represents an “ideal initial partner” in California, providing access to the US's largest state by population, if and when state law permits sports betting. Adam Greenblatt, GVC director of corporate development and strategy, described the partnership as “significant "It is not yet clear if California will authorise sports betting or interactive games generally, but with the overturn of PASPA possibly opening the door for sports betting, our tribe wants to be well-situated, and this agreement with the national leader in the field does just that," said Gene Whitehouse, chairman of UAIC. The partners may have some time to wait until they can begin accepting bets in California, which, with around 40 million residents, is the most populous US state. It has four times more people than New Jersey, while none of the other existing ‘betting states’ have more than three million residents. | loganair
09/10/2018 13:40 | I think the JV with Pokerstars was around the time that GVC made a bid of BPTY if I remember correctly - probably a little before but it was all going on. Not sure why I hadn't got size of last two states, but looking back it would seem these were the states most likely to open their doors once NY did. State Populatin expected 2 years Massachusettes 6.60 Lottery Michigan 9.883 Lottery Florida 19.3 Lottery Delaware 0.90 Up Nevada 2.76 Up New Jersey 8.86 Up Hawaii 1.30 Y Mississippi 2.98 Y Iowa 3.07 Y Louisiana 4.60 Y Washington 6.89 Y Pennsylvania 12.70 Y Ilinois 12.88 Y NY 19.50 Y Texas 26.06 Y Ca 38.04 Y Colorado Y w Virginia Y No idea what my note of UP stands for! LOL was a long time ago... | hubshank
09/10/2018 13:26 | And, of course, before Sports Betting was permitted there would have to be a California wide referendum to approve it. | mip55
09/10/2018 12:05 | Ahh yes of course Crookman - well reminded. | hubshank
09/10/2018 12:01 | The state of CA just could never agree to open up due to so many interested parties all wanting their piece of the action. The native community got very upset they couldn't have it all, also one of the tribes signed a JV with Poker Stars which muddied the waters even more due to PS issues with the Fed. | crookman
09/10/2018 11:21 | The thought process was that once they got hold of CA, then all but a handfull of religious States would follow. I would say this is indeed great news. However why back in 2012 did nothing actually happen Crookman? what stopped BPTY or GVC from actually operating in CA? NB Population of CA is > 38m - just trying to make sense of some of my old notes. | hubshank
09/10/2018 11:15 | Nice recap Hubs, remember it well. Bwin Party jumped into bed with United Auburn back in 2012 in that hope of CA finally opening... | crookman
09/10/2018 10:56 | I wonder why there isn't an RNS about it, it really is big news. | hubshank
09/10/2018 10:48 | Hyper..... I read the article with interest. Anyone who was in Partygaming and Bwin would remember (and please correct me if I have got some of the details wrong - it has been ongoing for about 10 years)that the Indians were against allowing any outsiders from bringing gambling into CA, it was total protectionism and went back and forth to court many times. BWIN entered into a JV with MGM in New York to get a slice of that market when MGM was under Mitch Gabor (former PTY boss and I do not know what happened as I stopped following the thread for quite some time and allowed the shares to just do their thing once GVC bought them) however BPTY were knocking at the doors trying to gain whatever licenses they could in other states. The WTO ruled years ago that the US had no right to ban operators from overseas from entering the US market, the US ignored this and only recently Trump was on the news disparaging the WTO and claiming they had no power and should be disbanded. edit - US claimed it was not about protectionism but protecting its people and the ban was under the money laundering act rather which stopped financial institutions from being able to process any transactions to gambling sites. BWIN went to huge lengths deal with tax issues and gambling addiction, money laundering etc. They made small headways in the US. The deal was to legalising sports betting and gambling on a state by state basis, CA being the cherry. So this article is indeed VERY GOOD NEWS - inmho for what its worth. | hubshank
09/10/2018 10:36 | Flight deck still healthy ecoover, and blue skies ahead, just have to weather the storm first. | hubshank
09/10/2018 08:50 | Well,it got to within 5p of my target.... is that it? Has the fight back begun? | woodhawk
09/10/2018 08:19 | No RNS but maybe noteworthy moving forward: | hyperboreus
08/10/2018 17:30 | Blimey, looks like my 875p target might be hit tomorrow!?! Better get some more funds together! Assuming there is no underlying cause (just like late 2016-Jan 2017's 27% fall), this will prove to be another superb buying opportunity. | woodhawk
08/10/2018 16:43 | So , you are trying to say that the metrics are so good and we will recover soon . | ecoover
08/10/2018 16:17 | I can not believe how low we are . | ecoover |
