I noticed it bounce off 988 a couple of times, and I thoroughly expected it to bounce from there. If I'd had spare funds I'd have certainly bought there. But no!

Let's face it if you've got the firepower any share price can be manipulated

IMOThe recent share price drop is purely legal market manipulation. The large holders work together. They sell their holdings (the shares arnt borrowed is it's not shorting as such) into the market causing a fall and buy back at an appropriate time causing a surge in the spKnown as the sling shot effectI noted Goldman Sachs took a big position in blue prism recently ...whats happening to the sp?

I disagree - I think most moments in most share prices is manipulation by the traders who trade and hold shares often for less then 1 second.

Always brings to mind Rank. Rank share price was £2.70 when a Hong Kong/Malay company started buying in, in concert with two other companies. 18 months later these three companies held nearly 50% of Rank while during this same 18 months Ranks share price fell to just 60p. Manipulation of the share price if I have ever seen it.

I don't think shorting on a big scale is taking place. It just requires a relatively small imbalance between buying and selling and the share price will respond.

Fwiw I think it's just general uncertainty in a few areas all of which been mentioned here in the last few days. The next bump might come via October update.

What evidence is there that shorting on a big scale is taking place?

As I have said before the total short position of 0.5% holders is only 1.33%, made up up of two holders who have not reduced their short positions since Feb and March of this year.

I think too much is said about Shorting and what shorting does or does not do to the share price of a company. Except when a company is in real trouble I think shorting has very little impact on the share price of a company.

Normal market activity cannot resist concerted selling - the share price will inevitable fall - it won't then necessarily recover but find a new lower equilibrium.

I think the Shorters are selling the price down to give them an opportunity to exit prior to the dividend payment becoming due.

surely if shorters are trying to get out of the stock they have to buy to close out, and the share price should go up?

My guess that this decline is the Shorters attempting to get out of the stock before the dividend payment becomes due on the 20th Sept.

A slight correction, I have taken profits from time to time and I am down about 10% from my highest holding of GVC. Main reasons have been to cover tax as well as taking up other opportunities such as VRS and GAN. I don't like to talk about the ones that have entered the 90% club!!

You can find a 'reason' for any movement if you look hard enough. However, some take profits from time to time (apart from, obviously, Mylands who never takes profts - he says). Some then move on (like me) and some try to buy back cheaper, later. Simple really. I don't really think 'Greece' is, erm, responsible for a fall of this magnitude.
