Bigdog -- "As for the Yanks, imho they're paying "lip service". The Yanks have very little up North.

The Americans have a great deal up north Sarah which is why they're building their biggest consulate in the world there, and:-

"The United States has a major military base in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, which according to Heras, has become one of the most important staging areas and listening posts for the U.S. government in the Middle East."

And.

Matthew Zais, former energy official at the United States Energy Department and vice-president of government affairs for HKN Energy:-

"Kurdistan is one of our most long-term strategic allies and national security partners for the United States and it's oil and gas sector is key."

"He [Biden] is going to meet important allies in Saudi Arabia, but our position is that the Kurdistan region should be on the agenda for this visit because of the critical role that Kurdistan plays, it is one of our most long-term strategic allies and national security partners for the United States," Zais said, noting that its “oil and gas sector is key."

All of the pressure that is being exerted on the Kurds in terms of the politics, drone attacks and now the use of the Iraqi courts is being orchestrated from Tehran and is due largely to the huge American presence in Kurdistan, and that presence is due to the strategic importance that the US places on it.

Kurdistan is western leaning is an ally of the US (the Great Satan) and is right on the border of Iran.

If Baghdad was to gain control of the Kurdish energy sector then that would mean the loss of Kurdish autonomy and they would become totally dependant on Baghdad and hence Iran for their budget allocations. Iran would then be able to bend the Kurds to their will and the Kurds would be ordered to throw out the Americans their military base and their listening posts which are only a few miles from Iran's border.

Iran is very unhappy with the Kurds and that's what this nonsense about PSCs is all about.

The Iranians have realised that by using their influence over the Shiites in Baghdad they can use the Iraqi court system to open up a new front against the Kurds.

In addition, in the previous Iraqi elections the Iranian backed parties lost a lot of seats.

Since the last elections last October the Iraqi parties have still not been able to form a government and the holder of the largest number of seats Muqtada al-Sadr who is no friend of Iran withdrew reportadly under threat of assassination.

Iran knows that the Kurds are the king makers and making life difficult over the PSCs is simply another way of applying pressure to bend the Kurds to doing what they want and support Iran leaning factions and parties.

Iran has a lot of control over Iraq and they want control over Kurdistan, it's not going to happen, the Kurds will never yield, and the PSC's are still legal.

Politics. politics, politics.

If GKP was to get taken over. What would the potential share price be paid to existing shareholders?

The PUK have said very plainly, words to the effect of: "gas to Europe over my dead body".
The main gas production fields are much closer to PUK-controlled areas than to KDP.

The gas is needed by Iraq, and that is where it is will go.

sarahscam, that post has been put up before.

The Kurds have been saying the same thing for years and its got them nowhere. Plus, they only want to agree on "their terms". Baghdad can wield enormous pressure to get what they want. Its very obvious why the Kurds have taken the stance they have over the years and trying to use the constitution as a defence.

As for the Yanks, imho they're paying "lip service" and when push comes to shove who will they really support, Erbil or Baghdad. The Yanks have very little up North and as we've seen they've mostly departed. Baghdad are able to "influence" companies/Govts/oil traders/buyers whereas Erbil can't. How long before they stop the budget?

I was going to say that all we're doing is tracking Brent, but we aren't, we're doing better.

On 24th February Brent reached $100 a barrel and the GKP share price was at 201p.

Brent is currently at $100 a barrel and the share price is at 230p.

All of the mid price oilers have taken similar hits over the last few days and when oil turns which it will it'll take the oilers back up with it.

Steephill Cove 25th February - "GKP is a CASH COW, . and it will be even more of one with oil at over $100 per barrel. "

And that's just as true now as it was then.

"Analysts expect a quick resurgence in oil prices as supply tightness persists, pointing to front-month spreads that have held up despite Tuesday’s price fall.

Brent’s six-month market structure was in steep backwardation of $14.55 a barrel, little changed from the previous day. Backwardation exists when contracts for near-term delivery of oil are priced higher than those for later months.

“The price action overnight, with both contracts trading in near 15-dollar ranges, hints more at panic and forced liquidation than a structural change in the tight supply-demand situation globally,” said Jeffrey Halley, senior market analyst at OANDA."
