Completely disagree. The share price is subject to macroeconomic and political influences that are beyond the control of the Directors and managers of a business (though many would like to think otherwise) so they can't be judged on that alone. They should be judged on the business drivers that they can and do control - revenue growth, margins, profits, earnings per share and dividends. If they get that right, the share price will follow in due course. Greene King has a fantastic record of profit, eps and dividend growth (even in the darkest days of 2008/9 when others like MARS blinked and cut theirs) over a very long period which Rooney Anand not only continued but also oversaw the transformation of Greene King from a modest regional brewer, among many others, to grow from its East Anglian roots to become truly national (one of only two - MARS being the other - to do so). I, for one, would be very happy to have someone of his capabilities take over.

Ultimately, you judge a company on the share price.
Let us hope that the next clown they give half a million a year plus to, is better than the incumbent.
Please do not fool yourself that they are worth what we pay them. All we can hope for is that they don't make such a mess has been made already.

Judging by the share price slump since July the market did not seem impressed of late full stop.

In any event I am a little contrarion on this one and used that opportunity to purchase some stock sonce I think if you anlyse this fundamentally it's rather oversold.

Markets don't seem impressed by Rooney standing down:-



BUT it does seem orderly rather than "forced" given he's satying until April AND they also shoehorn this in to the announcement:-

As we announced recently, the business is performing in line with our expectations and ahead of the market.

So sounds as if things still on target regarding expectations I would assume.

Philanderer,

I don't think this will matter too much, looking forward to 2099, I think that Brexit, change of Government, collapse of the pound are much more likely scenarios. This share moves 2% either way every day for no other reason than market sentiment, or shorting etc. By 2099, I will hopefully have sold out anyway.

A possible solution would be to stop feeding barley to cows, and feed them bits of deep fried sheep, what could possibly go wrong.

Morning wasp , surprisingly I've got seven out of twenty blue so far .. GNK, BATS, IMB, RRS, TSCO, VOD and SSPG, but that can all change in a blink of an eye with this market at the moment ;-)

Well this is an unexpected rise on what is generally a pants day, FTSE currently down 137 points. Only GNK and DNLM up for me at the moment.
