14/12/2018 15:15 | I'll be at The Nichols Arms in Coytrahen, Bridgend for a pint of Abbot. Not a Greenne King pub but it proves that Abbott and IPA travel well! | samwn1
14/12/2018 14:08 | Friday again GNK holders, any plans to visit one or more of our pubs this weekend? I'll be visiting one of my favourite pubs in the entire world, the Fleur de Lys in Lowsonford, Warwickshire. It's wonderful in all seasons, a large beer garden in the summer on the banks of the Stratford canal, and log fires in the winter. It's not actually a Greene King pub, however its resident ales are IPA and Abbot and always have been. Share price holding up well given the chaos, have a good weekend. | waspfactory

30/11/2018 09:14 | Greene King addresses challenges Greene King (GNK) is in a good position after the summer tailwinds and it is addressing the pressures being placed on pubs and restaurants, says Interactive Investor. The brewer has seen pre-tax profit increase 3.2% in the half year and sales have outstripped the sector. Analyst Richard Hunter said although there were fewer competitors, ‘the fight for both food and drink-led business is intensifying’ and Brexit looms large. ‘Nonetheless, Greene King is working actively to address potential issues, and with some success,’ he said. He said the market was divided on prospects for the shares ‘but on balance consensus for the shares edges towards a ‘buy’&rs | philanderer
30/11/2018 07:32 | Langton:Following the release of its H1 numbers this morning, Greene King hosted a meeting for analysts and our comments are set out below:Managed pubs: GNK reports that LfL sales at week 30 were +2.9% implying a pickup in trade in the last 6wks There has been 'a slight acceleration' in recent weeks. Food is recovering a little. Sales were not split between wet and food sales. Margin is down a little. Work to mitigate cost increases is ongoing. The improvement in the quality of the estate is borne out by the fact that average weekly turnover (including the impact of churn) has risen by 2.4% compound over the last five years Fixed charges are covered 2.2 times. No change to profit guidance. Less supply is coming on. Restaurant numbers in the market as a whole have fallen by 1% in the last year Most pubs (around 90%) fall into one of the group's four main brands. The company is now the largest pub co in LondonPub Partners: Net income per pub is up 1.8% on a LfL basis. Overall division profits are slightly lowreBrewing & Brands: The hot weather in the summer was good for lager sales (external suppliers). This has an adverse impact on margins. Sales growth will moderate in H2 but the mix should improve.Balance sheet & other: Debt is down by around £100m. The group will focus on debt reduction & capes. There is enough left over to maintain dividend progression 'around twice covered' Debt loan to value is only 47.2%. Some 27% of EBITDA is earned outside the securitisation The group has a pension surplus of around £30m Some more (expensive) Spirit debt could be retired when the mark to market costs make this attractive 82% of GNK's estate is freehold or long leasehold.Outlook: Overall, momentum is positive. Uncertainties remain e.g. Brexit, costs, a resurgence of supply, consumer confidence etc. Christmas bookings are ahead of last year. GNK sees the big occasions as a useful opportunity to attract customers who will use its pubs on a regular basis going forwardLangton Comment: Greene King's shares have reacted positively to today's reassuring update. LfL sales are good but, in common with the rest of the industry, costs remain an issue. Uncertainties surrounding Brexit, consumer confidence etc. remain. But these are industry rather than stock specific concerns. GNK remains a cheap stock on most measures. It is well asset-backed remains attractive at these levels. | the deacon

29/11/2018 18:08 | Greene King 'deeply' undervalued, say Peel Hunt and Liberum | philanderer
29/11/2018 13:12 | Now if we could just persuade Kate Swann to take over as CEO ;-) Langton Capital’s Mark Brumby says Greene King is on track to meet annual forecasts, highlighting progress in the Pub Company despite higher costs holding back profits. Brumby argues costs will remain a headwind, particularly with the integration of Spirit, which provides both ‘challenges and opportunities’ | philanderer
29/11/2018 13:09 | Yes I understand the sentiment that no rise can be interpreted poorly but in the circumstance I concur that maitain is good news. Personally (and without risking sounding like a tw@t), having only recently bought in the yield is more than fine percentage-wise. I think any time the divi cover is less than 2, the market tends to price in a potential cut. Maintaining dividend through tough-times and restructuring phases, is not something all companies can do. GNK increasingly is looking like a company that will do so. In turn this usually (in my experience) leads to a scenario whereby the market begins to look at the fat yield with envious eyes... and start to buy back in. I always try to get in (just) before that happens. | thorpematt |
