Hmm, as expected not good news.
Given my loss position now I am inclined to hold for the next 4 weeks to see if they can sort out what appears to be a temporary problem.
I have never heard of this sort of problem before so either it is something new in terms of fracking or they are inexperienced and not up to the job.

Do they have the expertise to handle the blockage is the question or will it go from bad to worse on this drill now?

Well, it is a pretty simple decision for me, either the next update provides the catalyst to turn the share price around or I will exit.
Given how they have failed to deliver over the last 5 years the odds or not favourable but given what has happened in the last 6 months I feel that it is worth holding for a few more weeks.

Doubt if ST will lift it, his tips have been getting weaker. The farm out deal was soft but that's what we get from having a dominant shareholder/s with parallel and intertwined interests...but surely the point was, we're getting the drill done and that's where the real potential lies, and if it goes well we'll be happy enough. Cutting a sharper deal wouldn't have made the drill result any better.

As for the result itself I'm not sure the share price drift down is telling us much, volume is light and it only takes a few sells. The converse will also apply. We should know the answer soon though for better or worse.

I like opodio's post 2261 best and will go to bed on it, even if I don't quite share the level of optimism:)

Old stock market adage:
If you find yourself saying "if this would only go up a bit I would sell" then sell now.

I think that 'the market' hasn't got the faintest idea what the results will be from Catalina, however Global has failed to deliver for so long that it is perfectly understandable that the share price is drifting lower but I personally do not see the point in bailing out just to get your money back if the share price ever reaches the 80's again.

Have we all forgotten exactly why we all invested in this outfit in the first place?

Sooner or later this bunch of Texans have to deliver and I am pretty sure if they do none of you will be exiting in the 80's. That is enough from me now, I think I have spent too much time in the sun today :-}

Likewise, if I can break even at 82, I'm out also. Hopefully it's time for Simon Thompson to re tip it agin in the I.C.

Well, it does not look like the market is expecting great things from the imminent update.
I say that as a holder from 85p so clearly I am looking for anything that would get me back to b/e so I can exit this with my dignity.
I was very disappointed with the terms of the farmout they agreed earlier this year, it seemed like they had negotiated with one hand tied firmly behind their back.

Small feature in shares magazine makes mention of catalina well and expects update before end of July

States flow test results could be the catalyst towards broker targets of 181p.

Thanks paleje,

Oils is not a sector I know - in for diversification so appreciate others' views. Obviously management is key and yep there are plenty of negative comments on this thread. But there does seem to be a large disparity between share price and valuation here.

Maddox, only my opinion but..any time soon news on Catalina1, possibly operations update ahead of interims in September, the interims themselves.

No idea what Catalina1 will produce, obviously fingers crossed, but operations should be doing ok hopefully with stable production, lower costs and a better oil price. Downside ought to be limited if operations are going well even if Catalina disappoints, in fact the share price should be higher regardless of drill results. If drill results are good then we should see triple digits IMO.

I haven't been here all that long, I know management have disappointed some, hopefully that is about to change.

Thanks for that hashertu.

There was, incidentally, and coincidentally, an article in Sundays ST travel section on Columbia, apparently now one of the friendliest regimes in South America and its reputation for crime and violent disruption to travel and business fast disappearing. I expect that makes things a bit easier for our guys to organise things as must taking on local workers where possible.

Many thanks for the AGM summary hashertu.

The company's stance and opinion on the Columbian tax regime is much the same as I see it. Reckon they will get good gov't assistance to ensure production is maintained and improved.

Fraccing kit down in Columbia is as you say not readily available. That of course will change if ouors is proved successful.

All in all, we are in a good position with enough catalysts to drive the share price upside. I'll be adding again on any dips.

AGM. I think I was the only PI there.

I hadn't realised it, but Catalina 1 was said (MF) to be the first major frac stimulation in Colombia. Equipment and skills very limited in country. A lot of material and talent brought in from the USA. Also, environmental lobby is getting much louder and Ecopetrol are being made to take notice. Might explain why events went much slower than we would like.
You will note that John Ely personally supervised the fraccing crews. MF said this showed how seriously they (Ely) viewed the first frac.

I asked MF about whispers I had heard that Columbia was starting to run out of oil, and that this might lead to changes (for the worse) in the tax/royalty regime.
He was pretty dismissive about the former given the investment that majors have made recently in the country.
He also thinks Ecopetrol and government have, and will continue to, honour the agreements they have signed. However, fail to meet your obligations and all terms will be made less attractive (see BOIL, NBM negotiations).
MF thinks GED is sitting on some very attractive acreage, that Ecopetrol would love to reassign to a major (GED is small beer in this context). This makes GED work very hard to ensure this does not happen.

SV was very reluctant to say anything other than look at the website, where all that they are prepared to talk about is explained.
I asked about Bocachico/CHOPS, as this is their biggest 3P resource, but seemed to have stalled since 2012.
The first PCP installed 2012 failed. This was because the elastomers within the pump were not designed for the high temperatures that are seen at the reservoir depths. They expanded excessively and ultimately seized solid.
A new generation pump is being installed at Torcaz 3. It is designed to operate down to 8500 feet. More importantly, this design has been in operation in the Middle East for the last 2 years in conditions more arduous than Bocachico.
This should mean that we start to see encouraging news flow in the next 3-6 months that resurrects our largest asset.
On the downside, the well bore is inclined at 45 deg and this will lead to higher wear on the drive tubes that would be the case with a vertical well.
