Today GAW just become my third 10 bagger in my investing history. I've had some stinkers along the way but it is great to hit multiple unrealised (yet) profits in long held shares.

I wonder if they'll be announcement of another dividend in the coming weeks?

Phil Oakley (excellent IMO) has just published an in-depth analysis of Games Workshop on the IC website, with the title: "Games Workshop: a case study in sound management and operational gearing".

Nod, the business is now divided in two business lines: miniatures and entertainment. That tells where management want to take the company.

On the subject of GAW IP being niche it was interesting to watch the Witcher on Netflix over Christmas - that was niche...before the series! Can only help the fantasy sector as a whole to have things like that being mainstream

That would be a target release date for Eisenhorn of June 2021.

I seem to recall that Kate Marsh (new non exec with plenty of commisioning experience) suggested around 21 months when I asked her at the agm. This may be an optimal period.

I was looking up lead times for TV shows and they take years from concept to first showing. So we have a few years before we get to see Eisenhorn, unfortunately. Assuming the series comes to fruition, it will be a test of how family-friendly producers can make our violent characters. A main difference between Marvel and GAW is that Marvel was always a media company (comics and later screen). Spider Man and The Hulk were successful animated TV series in the 1970s, 30 years before Disney acquired them. GAW makes toy soldiers (this is how the company founders describe our business).

I think the runway to blockbuster film will be pretty long. It will be interesting to see how Eisenhorn is received (and who has commisioned it!)

Santro, I think it's wrong to suggest any Warhammer film is based on gaming - it's the Black Library novels that will provide the narrative.

I do not expect an acquisition, but if there were to be one, I'd think Berkshire Hathaway was a more likely candidate than Disney

The biggest problem with the Warhammer IP for Disney is that unlike Marvel it's not very family-friendly. It is not as well known as Marvel, as a result we have a much smaller audience. In addition, the track history of films based on games (Warhammer included) is pretty bad, there are only a few films that were reasonably successful. Therefore, it's a big risk for Disney to do anything with this IP, so it's very unlikely that Disney will try to buy GW any time soon. Its a great niche business, but it doesn't really fit Disney portfolio.

VT, I think you need to read up on Marvel Films (1993+), Marvel Studios (1996+), Marvel Entertainment Group (1980+) and the acquisition by Disney in 2009. Marvel had been licensing its characters for films (animated and live) for decades before Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment Group.Warhammer has had very modest success with its film licenses.

Why did they buy Marvel? They could just have licensed the IP. They paid $4.2bn and have made multiples of that. Disney would have complete control of the IP if they owned it.

VT, if Disney wants to make a movie based on GW characters they can just licence the rights, like other filmmakers do. Disney don't need to spend USD 3 Billion to acquire manufacturing assets just to use some IP.

It would be Disney that could develop the film/media rights. Almost certainly better than GAW could. GAW has a huge amount of IP that could be developed into films etc. Prior to the film, Pirates of the Caribbean was a set that played out every half hour along the Las Vegas strip with no backstory and certainly no film/tv. Don't forget that Marvel was just a well developed comic strip.

The big attraction, however, would be the potential for the Asian market where fantasy is popular.

Disney could afford to buy us, but are we a good fit for their business strategy?Their recent acquisitions have been in film rights and media distribution. They may be looking to acquire content for DisneyPlus, but GAW doesn't own much media content yet.On the manufacturing side, Disney makes Disney toys and apparel using over 5,000 factories in 70 countries.https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/the-walt-disney-company/acquisitions/acquisitions_list

Drcheinstein,

Good stuff -I'm on top of the manufacturing and logistics expansion. ie Tripling the number of PIM machines, new East Midlands Airport Dist Centre along with 50% expansion of dist centre in US.

But the new structure of the design studio is interesting and your comments tie in very well with released information regarding WH Fantasy relaunch etc.

It's very clear (and has been for a while) that ambitious plans are afoot.
